Hi there,

I am trying to work with a junky old hybrid that has a MTB-style triple crankset. I know how to take apart a standard road setup, where the chainrings bolt into the spider, but this is something different. The chainrings all appear to be riveted together, i.e., there is no place to insert an allen key. Is there any way to get this taken apart?

The idea is to make this into a single chainring setup. The front derailleur on this bike is broken, and it isn't worth putting money into the bike. Is this even going to be a possibility with this crankset?

I tried searching, but to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.

Why bother? Just throw the FD away and put the chain on whatever ring you want to use. Sounds like a few extra grams for the two chain rings you won't be using is the least of your worries...

lots of lower-end cranksets are actually riveted together; if so you're SOL.

Hmmm...this could be an interesting project. I have a couple of crappers chillin that could be SS'd if I drilled out the rivets. I wonder what the rivet hole diameters are.
