what am i doing wrong on ebay? i have never ever won an auction on ebay. i do a bit of shopping around on online bike shops, find the best price and that is my max bid. But the auctions always go above this even if the item is used.

you just answered the question 'why buy on ebay'? you know something those 'winning' bidders do not - now, go forth and buy online.

If you put in a low bid and win, great. but don't bid higher just to win, especially if you can get the item new for less - which you often can.

if your heart is set on winning you have to be willing to bid higher at the last possible second. It can be fun to win but it also activates the greed chip, never a good thing fiscally speaking....pls don't ask me how i know this:o

well actually i was always smug about not winning until last week. there were 3 cranks available and the first auction went above the online shop's price and i thought to hell with this I can't wait for the other auctions and they will all be above the shop's price anyway. So I ordered online then 3 days later the other auctions ended £10 lower than what I paid.

yup. Much better than sitting there chained to your computer and it removes the danger of you weakening and bidding higher than you wanted to if the price goes up.

Pick a price you're okay with paying, set it and forget it.

But know there will always be morans out there with no life who will chain themselves to their computers and bid in real time, often driving the price up way too high and ruining things for everybody.

How do I know this? well....because I just know, ok?:(

People go insane on eBay. They'll spend double what something is worth just for the "joy" of winning the auction.

Ironic for someone who judges people on how they might accidentally write "loose" when they mean "lose."

How odd that this thread becomes ill-tempered? Nothing contentious here.

I bought my brifters from an ebay store. I noticed that the same store was also selling their brifters through auctions. I bid on a couple and watched it price go 20 or 30 bucks higher than the same store was selling them at through the store! morans...

in addition to a buy it now button, maybe there should be a morans button

If you win something on Ebay it means you are willing to pay more for that item than 6 billon other people are. Are you sure you really want to win?

That would be a form of winning. Being the highest bidder means paying the most. Sometimes that means paying more than the item is worth, which would put you in the loser (or looser ) category. I never understood why people would pay more for my used gear than I paid new.
