I feel the exact same way (my last race of the season was today). This was my first year of cross and I am hooked. IMO it is much more fun than road. I think that I will change focus from road to cross much earlier in 09.

I raced 16 times this season and while I was physically getting burned out and glad to be done with training after last weeks race, now I feel energized to go again.

I'm with you, Lith. I'm going out for 3 hours in the morning. I'd rather be racing. Will definitely be doing the Proteus race in February. I may rally for the Va. Beach race in January.

Same here - I finished up my CX season and cycling year in general at Capitol Cross. I had a great year, but I still had a bit of a down feeling driving home from the race. Still, I get to enjoy a month of sleeping late, eating whatever I want, drinking that "one more beer", and most of all, spending plenty of time with my family.

Oh well, we're athletes - rest is good every now and then, especially when you've earned it.

'Nuff said, rest up and enjoy the "off-season". See you at the Proteus race.

Cross ended last week for me. It was a blast. I already miss riding the rig.....

....but I've moved on. 2 weeks of indoor training and an indoor TT today has me already thinking about the 09 road season.

Thank god, it's OVER! Second season, 13 races. Miss it? I'll never race cross again.....untill next year. Thankfully we just hit sub-zero temps and I do not feel like riding.

^^You're alive ...

yeah... sort of. I took on a new client. the weekend of the reston race i worked around 30 hours and was off my bike for an entire week because of work. in the last five years i've never gone more than 3 days without riding, so that totally sucked.

wanna ride next weekend?

The Capital Classic was the wrap up for my first season of cross. I'm hooked. I only did five races this season. Lots of travel and time commitments for various things had me out of town a fair bit, plus I didn't have a cross bike until the week before BCA so I missed a few of the early races.

I'm already looking forward to next season. I plan on putting in the miles this winter, spring, and summer to get in much better shape and hopefully start placing a whole lot higher in the Cs. I've always been a commuter and "ride-for-fun" kind of guy in the past. This was my first experience taking cycling (some-what) seriously. I still plan to mostly ride when its enjoyable, but I'd like to get to a place where I'm at least a skilled, decently fast weekend warrior.

I'll see you all at the Proteus race.

Its a double-edged sword for me.

I enjoy the early season road races, and I should be able to carry my fitness from 'cross over, but now the road season is just going to d_r_a_g on forever as I look forward to 'cross.

maybe i am an exception but the awesome cross season has me not looking forward to road season. Then simply be more selective in your racing, and view it as prep for cross.

Even if cross is your main deal, you have to do something the rest of the year, be it road, mtb, multisport, etc. Doesn't even have to be racing, but racing is (for most) the easiest way to keep motivated and maintain/grow fitness.

Also, you need to take some sort of break between cycles of training and racing. For me between now and 2009, any riding or running is strictly ad lib.

im still going to race road and be a lot more selective for sure. I plan on racing the early spring races and then take a break in june. I am going to screw around with some mtb races during the summer to keep me fresh.

Which ones? There's a tiny sliver of a chance I'll be doing the finals in Greensboro. The major hold up is I'd have to drive back to maryland the day before inauguration which would definitely be HORRIBLE if not impossible.

I like the Winter Cup races because they are so low key. But I've been tricked by the 'not seriously' attitude before. Once the starting gun goes off at a cross race the gloves come off. :)

of course at the race i am serious but I mean that I am not training or preparing for them like I have done all season. I havent even been on my bike since my last race 2 sundays ago.

Can't wait 'til next year. This was my first year racing cyclocross and first time racing anything since grade school track. Cyclocross feels like the sport I've always been looking for. It's fast, messy, requires skill, challenging, objective, and there's plenty or room to grow. Had a great time this season and I'll see y'all again in September.

I am the same way and I am about to go away for two weeks and do nothing but eat and drink and get fat. :)
