I just ran across a new 520 on sale for $899 regularly priced at $1099 at a LBS. I have been considering a 520 for some touring this summer. Is this a good price?

Yes, most shops sell them for $999.99 or more.

I got my Trek 520 '04 for $899. also. It's a great price. I also saw an '03 for $800., but it was a 21"; I needed a 23, so I went for that instead. I am very pleased with my purchase; in fact, I think I now ride my 520 more than the Cannondale my wife and daughters bought me only two months earlier. Go for the 520.

The website lists the '04 with Bontrager Mustang rims, while the '03 (which I have) has Bontrager Fairlane rims.

I got my 04 Trek520 at my LBS for about $970 tax included so I'd say your getting a good deal. I love it!

Picked up my 04 520 two weeks ago. I paid $900 plus tax. I called several shops in my area to get quotes. The best price I was quoted was $850 tax included. Two shops quoted $999 plus tax. One quoted $1099 plus tax. I chose to go with the shop that made me feel most comfortable even though they didn't offer the lowest price. The $899 price you are being quoted is a good price.
I added SKS P-45 fenders to the bike and a Specialized wireless computer. Two weeks in and I'm a happy camper. Looking forward to a break in the weather to put some serious miles on this puppy.
