So, I picked up a kinda cool bike on craigslist a while back. The guy selling it didn't know what it was, but it turned out to be an old specialized rockcombo. It looked like this when I bought it :

I rode it around like that for a while, but it was a bit of a reach to the bars, and I wasn't really digging on the old specialized dirt drops. So on the bike moved to its next incarnation :

This was pretty fun. I put a nice new set of paselas on, 26x1.25, and I loved the moustache bars. This version of the bike lasted almost a year. Still, it was a bit too big for me, and I wasn't all that fond of the ride. So, the moustache bars and cantis migrated to my old kona explosif, which loves them.
This left the poor bike without a purpose. Now, a friend of mine was just getting into utility cycling, but had a miserable old motobecane step-through frame that didn't feel right to her. She liked the way my kona singlespeed rode, but living in san francisco, she needed gears. Here's the result of her needing a bike and me having a spare bike hanging around :

Now it's a fairly bulletproof urban warrior bike. The short reach to the bars makes it nice and easy to get the front end up over curbs, and gives her the kind of visability that the 'racing' bike never did. The cheapo v-brakes stop pretty darn well, especially compared to the cranky old stamped sidepulls on the old bike. And with a triple up front, most hills are going to be doable.
Sorry for rambling, I just had too much time on my hands..
