17.5 Trek Fuel EX9
Im 5 foot 9 with a 30" inseam.
Gonna be to small? Should I have went 18.5?
Should be fine - I rode an 18" Litespeed for 10 years - I'm 5' 10" and 32" inseam. However, as I have gotten older and found how I like to ride - I now ride a 19" litespeed - and Specialized Enduro (L = 19")

From the information you gave, I would probably fit you on that size frame.

Feel of the toptube length and how stretched out you are on the bike is way, way more important fit wise than the seat tube length.
That said, I prefer as short a seat tube as I can get while still having the top tube long enough. With appropriately steeply angled top tube, that is.
Did you try out the 18.5? If the 17.5 felt better then its the right one!

I'm about your size and ride a 19.5 .. before they had the 18.5 size .. I'd vote too small, but lots of folks like too small bikes.. that tells you absolutely nothing, which is the irony of bike sizing. It's the most important thing to buying a bike, but you really can't tell if it actually fits
