Cyclocross - 2006 Lemond Poprad

Just bought a mint 2006 Poprad today. I'm 5'9 with a 31" inseam and the bike is a 55 cm. I can straddle the bike with not much room, but it doesn't bother me one bit. (In college I had a Miyata Triplecross about the same size.) I also feel very comfortable on the drops. I am new to cycling so I don't know the proper fit for my frame size. Can someone tell me things to watch out for as far as knowing whether the bike fits me properly. I was reading somewhere about shoulder angle not exceeding 90 degrees? Say what?? Is it really that crucial that I have the proper textbook fit? Thanks for your help guys!!
I'm the same height, and ride a 55cm Lemond. Perfect fit for me. If it feels comfortable to ride - it's right :)

Thanks for giving me the peace of mind.. I keep reading all this stuff online about proper bicycle fitting and the dangers of an improper fit, like my arm's going to fall off or something...

Depending on how you are proportioned fit will vary. there are a couple on line fit calculators that are pretty good but it really shoudl have been done before you bought the bike.
I'm not saying that you have the wron size bike, but I'm 6'2" with a 34.5" (cycling not pant) inseam and I was on a 55 poprad with a 100mm stem.

take the bike to a local shop and have them look at you on it if you are concerned, have them check it out while you are there and then go out and ride it :-)

The Cross bike is usually best to buy the bike one size smaller than your road bike. I ride a 55cm road bike and purchased a 54 cross bike after trying the 55cm. I am 5'9" inseam of 30in. You can usually get the bike to fit if you get the right sizing on the components such as the stem. Remember if you are cross riding a bike that is too big will be harder to ride in the off road conditions.
