Something doesn't jibe. If it's your "beloved bike," why do you want to know the value of your bike whole vs. parted?

Because he found the Holy Grail, and he wants to sell his bike so he can afford to buy it?

If I had the holy grail, I'd trade it for an old guerciotti frame w/stem and bars, one black DuraAce brake and one 5-speed rear wheel, easy!

Well, maybe I'd hold out for a pair of the black brakes.

I like the frame, but its a bit far from me! Here's a simular condition frame that went for $150 on ebay recently (http://cgi.ebay.com/Guerciotti-Steel-Road-Frame-Fork-57cm_W0QQitemZ250329018019QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRoad_Bikes?hash=item250329018019&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A13%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318) .

I think the rear derailleur looks like it has a date on it in this photo (http://s247.photobucket.com/albums/gg135/cgcgparker/?action=view&current=100_2335.jpg) after the 'pat'.
Do you have all the parts to build the complete bike, could be a fun december activity.

Could it be that this belongs in "Vintage Value Inquires" (no, I didn't spell it wrong, 'tis what the new subforum is named) and disturbs the newly acquired composure of the main forum :p ?

true, that's where it belongs...but since it's here: it's clearly a '70s Guerc, but I don't think as early as the Patent '73 RD would indicate. It has braze-ons (but not TT cable eyes? did they rust off?) and that black DuraAce places it (help me here DA experts!) around '76...assuming it's original to the bike. Given the nicks/chips/rust I'd say your grail needs refurbishing.

Its always easy to tell when the C&V crowd has been slumming in RC.....

Frame and fork $200-250
Hubs: An new old stock failed to sell on Ebay with a maximum bid of $27
Brakes: No idea
Campy derailleurs: front Nuovo Record $15 MAX rear Nuovo Record $30

Your wheels are essentialy worthless as a whole because the spokes are so rusty. Good spokes are $50 per pair of wheels plus labor to build at $30/wheel. $110 exceeds the value of the wheels.

Now...where did you get and how much did you pay for it? Does it still have its serial number?

As far as parted out or whole, I don't see a whole bike in the pics. So that kind of cinches it in that regard. Don't be surprised if it doesn't bring you near what you think it will.

Holy grail will have stainless spokes as a minimum.

WOW ...... Catchy Title ROCKS old bike forum to its ROOTS!!!!!!!!!
What a way to welcome a new comer to the forum!!
It never fails to make me deep belly laugh with the arrogance associated with bicycle "enthusiasts":thumb:
Give me a break. For those that can chuckle at a fun title and answer some basic questions THANK YOU. For those that feel the need to attack an individual with a plethora of one liner ignorance .. you need to get out and put some miles on an open road and defuse your pent up self hatred and burn some calories. I have owned this bike for 15 years and with recent economic woes am forced to sell some personal belongings. Again give me a break and congrats on potentially running off an individual with considerable time, miles, bikes, experience, etc. within your elitist two wheel world. Shaking head and still laughing.

I don't think anyone's "pent up." Since no details were offered up, it's kinda fun (edit: REALLy FUN) to imagine what they could be, and get crazy with speculation.

Since the title included the word "found" and the words "Holy Grail", I was guessing the frame/fork and a couple bits were found in a dumpster and that you figured they were worth $5,000 and perhaps you should contact the Smithsonian about your find, hehehe.

Then into the body of your message comes this "beloved" word, wow! Now that you've included details, most of the fun speculation phase can come to an end. I think between shady and buckwheat's posts, you have a good idea of value at this point.

One more bit of speculation exists. Are you asking built-up and parted-out prices to ascertain whether you should spend time/money to rebuild the bike, as it seems to be mostly dismantled at the time ??? If that's the case, I would guess that no, it's not worth the time/money. Simply clean/lube the parts to the best of your abilities before putting them on the block.

If you want on-point answers, ask on-point questions. You might still get called a newb cuz you can't post pics, but if you're hurt by that, well....

Cuda helped with the photos, so no worries there.

What's the story of the find? Are you asking because you'd like to build it back up?

Bio, I think the weather outside is getting to these old fuddy duddy's they were cranky on another thread today as well. So please don't get discouraged by the rudeness of the guys you encountered here today not all C&V ers aer like that. There are acctually several nice helpfull members in this forum.

I just think that perhaps snow storms and ice storms are getting in the way of good humor.... or could it be that they are just being scrooges?

Well anyway happy holidays or winter celebration or whatever you call this time of year. Soon the sun will be out for longer periods of the day and we all can start getting more vitamin D.
