I crashed at a race last Sunday and apparently bent a rim on my Crossmax UST wheel. It is out of true about 1/4". I have all of the tools but I don't know what to turn, the spokes or the nipples or both. Or, should I replace it and can I get a replacement rim?

Thanks,
Gary

Have a LBS take care of it, would be my first responce. A 1/4 inch is a lot , IMO, for a first timer.

Turn the nipple, which tightens and draws the rim towards the side your working on. Also keep in mind that when you tighten one side, you may need to loosen the other. Trial and error you first time out for sure. If it is a decent rim I'd have a pro do it.

I have trued wheels before, just not the Crossmax. I only use them for racing and have never had to touch them. And I have never dealt with a potentially bent rim before. I have a trueing stand and the tools I need, I am just looking for suggestions.

The star shaped piece screwed into the rim should not turn. You want to turn the nipple and hold the spoke. The wheels should have come with a slotted puck for holding the spoke. They true up like any other wheel.

You can get rims if you need them, the wheel is kind of a pain compared to regular wheel to build. You might want to take a couple of detail pictures or make a drawing of the cross pattern to make sure you get it right on the build.

You might want to take a couple of detail pictures or make a drawing of the cross pattern to make sure you get it right on the build. Another trick is to tape the crosses before you unlace the wheel, so the spokes will all be in the same relative position.
