Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have never found anything that is the same as actual swimming. Just like nothing is the same as actually running outside, or biking outside.

Anaerobic training will not offer much help for your swim. Core training will help a little, but technique is the most important part by far. Seek out water.

As flip18436572 said, there's really no subsitute for actually getting into the water. Even if you have to drive an hour or so getting in once a week will be much better than any other exercise. That being said there are a number of dryland excercises that competitive swimmers routinely do. Here is a link http://swimming.about.com/cs/drylandexercise/a/swim_weight.htm that describes some of them. Most public libraries have, or can get, books on coaching swimming which include dryland exercises.
