Pacific Northwest - Going to Boise in the Winter- Should I even bother to bring my bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I will be going up to Boise in December or January for a week. Should I even bother to bring my bike? Would love to get some nice rides in, but I suspect that road and weather conditions wouldn't favor me this time of year. Thoughts? Should I stick to x-country skiing?

If its warm enough to ski, its warm enough to ride your bike! Just plan ahead for the conditions and be safe!
But aren't all the good riding roads going to be covered in snow?

Hard to say right now, they could get a bunch of snow or they could get zip. I'm hoping we have all we're gonna get over here!

Go skiing - transporting a bike from Rome (home of the Gladiators) to Boise would be a pain. If it's not snowing, chances are it will be really cold - not saying a ride isn't possible, but a fun road ride is not likely. Now if you know of any nice, frozen offroad trails or through a peaceful forested area, and with the right bike.....

I'm going to Boise around New Years. I'm bring my 'cross bike. One thing that's almost guaranteed is that the weather will be better in Boise than in Spokane (and if I stayed in Spokane, I'd be riding anyway). You might want to contact http://www.lacticacidcycling.org/default.aspx before your visit, as they say they ride all winter long.

Right now its 20-something, and ice and snow all over the roads. About to be several days of more snow and colder weather, 5-degrees at night. You need snow stud bike tires at this time. Later Dec and Jan, hard to say, but very likely to have lots of patches of frost, ice and some snow, and temps probably 20-something, 30-something, but possibly a lot of bare dry road wherever sun hits the road most of the day.
Thanks guys. I am in the Bay Area. Sounds like it's not worth bringing my bike and all my gear for the little riding that I could or would do. Hope to ride with you all some summer when I am visiting again.

Yeah no kidding. We had our winter solstice ride planned on Saturday night. It's looking pretty painful right now. Can we do it indoors? :winter:
