New research illustrates the health benefits of regular biking, walking or taking public transportation to work, school or shopping. Researchers found a link between "active transportation" and less obesity in 17 industrialized countries across Europe, North America and Australia.

So if you exercise and eat smartly you don't get obese! Well I'll be...........I don't know about the Public Transportation part.......that sounds more like the propaganda media talking, but walking & cycling are real winners for weight control to be sure (IMHO)..........

Could be, usually if you are taking public transit you are walking a fair amount too, plus you will be carrying more when you do (groceries, etc).

It's not just about what we eat. People around the world are less active now, too.
When I started working in China in the '80s, everyone biked to work. Today it's dangerous to bike, so people take mass transit or cars or motorcycles, and kids under 12 are banned from biking because it's not safe. They don't walk, either.

Makes sense. If you're taking the bus then you're probably walking to/from the bus stop a fair bit.
