Here is my setup. I would like to turn the brakes around but then the cable is sticking up and it makes the brakes mushy. So I need the housing to exit from the bottom of the brake. Also the back brake is a bit mushy even with the shortest cable housing. I have good shimano housing. I have been debating on replacing the back part of the housing with something stiff to help any ideas?

Actually, it should feel less mushier than your current setup, IMO. Your brake cables are making a rather tight turn under the bar tapes. I've seen cables routed out the bottom using ordinary levers such as your's. It's an awkward setup but the cable is routed down along in inside of the lever itself. The cable end sits on the hood tip and routes downward.

I thought it was the flex of the housing that made it mushy. I knwo when I first got this setup working I had the housing that met the first stop a bit long. I cut it down and that helped.
I did have the housing looping out at first with the brakes facing the other way. but I had goofed and used the shifting housing (G)
breaking is fine but since am overweight iwant as much as possible in the rain.
