I was just doing some test writing for school and slapped down South of Heaven by Slayer on my turntable. The song "Manditory Suicide" came on with its chanting and screaming and song-ending poem lamenting the pointlessness of dying in a war at this point in history. The song was originally written 16 years ago about the Vietnam war, but in light of recent events, the song may as well have been written yesterday. Creepy.

Makes me a feel a little angry, again, about Bush and war and the eternal question: why?

History repeats itself, but not in this conflict...While you are at it, lay down some John Lennon "Give Peace a Chance"...written over 30 years ago..

Why war? Good question but no one can answer it. We just have to deal with it....

No, there is always an answer. Just depends on whether we are privledged enough to get our hands on it. Knowledge, after all, is power. And we are mostly powerless.

I'm not much of a fan of metal in general, but i do have to admit that 'reign in blood' is one of the finest half hours committed to vinyl.

I might have actually given them more than 2 min. of my time if they were not so blatantly Satanic.

Dude, they are not nearly that literal. Most of their "santanism," if you can call it that, is man's image of hell refracted through his/her own acts. Dude, why don't you read yourself some Nietzsche and take look past simple ideas of "good" and "evil."

OK look I saw Slayer in 87. They had the words "God hates you" on the lower riser of the drum kit. Baphonet symbol as their backdrop. Short of getting into a obviously absurd and pointless discussion over this, Nietzche is something I read in High School and I have slept since then. I know 'good" and "evil" quite well, and can differintiate between them both with perfect clarity. I do not need philosophy to show me this.
If you do not see a band such as Slayer with all their symbolism and song lyrice as being Sattanic then I do not know what fits in that category.

One phrase that the Bush administration has used a-plenty: "shock and awe." Or if that doesn't make sense, then there's always good ol' fashioned "irony."

I prefer to think of it as 'Kittens In Satan's Service'. The imagery's much better that way.

KISS is NOT an acronym for Kings in Satan's Service. Some moron southern preacher made that up and stupid people all over the country believed it.

I once heard Gene Simmons interviewed. He said that originally the band wanted to call itself by the f-word. Kiss was as close as they thought they could get and still be played on the radio.

What rebel he is. He must be satan himself! I am no longer going to listen to him because he sounds like satan. Satan is bad.

Ever listened to the Steppenwolf Monster album? The title track/side is truly timeless "No matter who's the winner, we can't pay the cost.".

Yes, I prefer my satanism to be suble and understated. I recommend Enya.
