Winter Cycling - Studded tires for a road bike?

This year I'm trying to cycle year round in Boston. The ice/snow is the main thing that could stop me. I've heard of studded bicycle tires. Can anybody recommend such a beast? Anybody have any experience with them?

I ride a 2007 Jamis Aurora - it's a touring bike with cantilever brakes - so lots of clearance I think.

Racing bikes typically come with 700x23mm (23-622) tires. If you look at the clearance between your tires and those parts of your bike that the tires come close to, you'll see that there is probably no more than 4mm or 5mm clearance at some points. And at the top of the tire, particularly where the tire goes under the front brake, you could have as little as 3mm of clearance.

I have been riding the Kenda Klondikes on my Cross Check this winter. 700x40 if your bike can fit them, but so far they are great!

I posted the below post in another thread just a few minutes ago. See below. Also, I like these tires because on either hardpack or or clean roads, you run them with higher pressure. Heavier snow, you lower the air pressure to engage the studs. See the below link from PWC for a picture. I have one set of 40's left at my store.

Looks like you got what you are looking for, but just a heads up, you should look at the A10's from Nokian. You remarked that you were looking for a lower rolling resistance which these have the lowest of the studded tires do to the fact of where they place the studs (more on the sides vs on the center of the tread). They also have a slightly lesser tread too. I own the 40's and love them. As for the issue of the size of the tire on your rim, I cannot speak to that personally, but I can tell you I had 37's on a pair of Ksyriums for a few weeks while I got new rims during the summer and had no problems.

Lastly, if anyone else is looking I can get you a pair of these for cheap (Nokian A10's). Probably around $40.00 each. Let me know. Would ship out of Buffalo NY.
