Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - new RUSA membership

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

About how long does it take for membership status to kick in after mailing off the paperwork? If I mailed my papers off about a week ago, will my membership not show up as active until the 2009 season?
Just curious. I'm not used to sending papers, with so many things having immediate online applications.
i think your membership goes into effect right away (as soon as they process it).
it took maybe two weeks for my packet to get back to me.
btw, you can search on the rusa.org site (http://www.rusa.org/cgi-bin/membersearch_GF.pl) to see if you have a RUSA # yet (useful for signing up for brevets, etc)

Hello! I just signed up to join RUSA too. I'm eagerly waiting for my number as I'd like to do a 200k on Jan 1st. Hope you get your number soon!
My paperwork was processed in about 2 weeks and my packet arrived. If you sign up in October or later the membership is for the remainder of the current year and carries over to the next year. In other words, both you and I are signed up for 2009 if you sent in your paperwork after Oct.
Applications are processed by a volunteer so it might take a couple weeks. But no matter. In Texas, we take RUSA applications the day of a brevet and just wait for the app to be processed before submitting the results. Your membership will be good through the remainder of 2008 through 2009.

OK, so it should be another week, from the sound of everyone's experience.
Thanx!

Woohoo! I checked back at the RUSA website, and my membership is active.
(It didn't show up in a search yesterday, I'm presuming, because I searched by first and last name, and my first name is misspelled. D'oh!) I'll have to go about getting that fixed.

welcome to the club!!
so will you be coming out to SiR's "winter training series" starting next month? (not that you need this membership for that, but it's a good way to get ready for brevet season)

So Clifton,
I'll finally be able to truly benefit from your presence on a brevet. Your pulling power and wind blockage will be appreciated. See you this season

I need to check out when the rides are, and what the paces are like. I'd like to get out to a few rides before jumping into the brevets, but that might not happen.

It's like drafting a truck, isn't it? :D

i think the first one is 1/10, and they happen just about weekly from there until march (i think). starts out with a ~40 mile ride around the redmond area at whatever pace you choose. here's a link (http://seattlerando.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=4&id=37&Itemid=26) to schedule.
i rode to most of these (except the ones that started way up north) last year - if you're interested in "bike pooling" to some of these (with starts in southcenter, kent, auburn) let me know!
Thanks for the schedule. I will have to plan for those rides myself.

I'll be mailing mine off soon so I can try out this freaky randonneuring thing. I don't even know if I'll be able to ride 124 miles, let alone 372, but it sounds like something I'd enjoy much more than racing or club rides. Plus the bikes tend to be cooler. lol
Too bad there don't seem to be any brevets in Indiana at all...
