In the original thread for a diamondback sorrento I ended up getting a great crank and chainrings built for a much better specialized rockhopper(no creaks, wider gear range). that worked good but the front derailler would rub on the outside cross gears and being acera X was kinda cheapy. So I bought and installed a Deore derailler for $26. It's great. Shifting is flawless and I get no chain rub even in the far cross gears. I like it so much I may put a Deore on the rear just to make it match. Then maybe we'll have a look at that cheapy stem and headset.

Why are you riding with cross gears?
Big/big and small/small put excessive strain on the chain.

I didn't say I rode with cross gears, I said it RUBBED on cross gears.

(this gets to my pet peeve about bike manufactures, if someone sells you an 8 cylinder car they don't say 2 cylinders are unusable or a 4 bedroom house but wait 1 bedroom is unusable. Why do bike manufactures advertise 21, 24, and 27 speed bikes with unusable gears. shouldn't they say 19speed, 22speed, and 23speed.)

At least I'm not the only one who can't stop spending money on upgrades :)

It's an addiction. It used to be cars, then girls, then motorcycles, now bikes!!
