...unexpectedly, to "see how you were doing", and it just sort of bummed you out?

So I had a peer, cool dude...drop in on me unexpectedly and it sort of turned into this weird macho display I think. Maybe it's just my imagination. Not sure. But I have a hard time reading people and I just sort of got the impression that that's what it was all about. Either a self serving "I'll feel better knowing you're not dead" sort of thing on his part, or a strange competition of "who's doing better these days? I AM!" sort of vibe...very weird. Anyway I am sort of weirded out by the whole thing and think that maybe I should be feeling grateful that people would want to check in on me, no? I feel guilty for not being more grateful. Then again, my dog bit him as he came across the doorway, and my dog is a good judge of vibe/character so...I'm not sure. I do feel bad that he got bit. I know that much. But my dog doesn't just bite people for no reason.

I'd say the dog canceled out the bummer part:D

yep, this has indeed happened to me...put it behind you as a one of those things, I think....ya can't go home again...

You hit it pretty close to the nailhead I think. "You can't go home again..." pretty much sums it up. Wasted nostalgia and bittersweet have-beens, half spoken apologies (this dude has done some pretty mean things in the past that I unfortunately reminded him of), attempts at exorcism, and eighty pound overprotective german dog all make for an interesting evening.

No one ever stops by my place. Probably because the only thing they could sit on would be bikes. I'd no doubt be sitting in the only chair.

the werid thing is sometimes you think it will be that and it turns out fine...last year I used Google and found a guy I hung around with when we were very young (ages 6-9ish) and turns out he is a major mo-fo of a surgeon, head of a trauma unit in a big hospital, etc etc. he was back in the area visiting his folks the following week and we had dinner and he could easily have been a real jerk, or it could have been awkward - but he was the nicest man, not unlike the nice kid I remember being friends with. He was real down to earth, very humble about his gig and wanted to know all about my job (I'm not a surgeon, least not last time I checked:o). He seemed so happy, loves his work, has a wife and three kids, etc etc. It was a major high meeting up with him again....

but the reverse has happened to me enough times too. a bummer but I guess it;s just the way our paths evolve and all that.

Same here. I wonder what that would be like. Would I get annoyed? See, that's not a very grateful welcoming attitude is it?

I do like serenity and a regular day, no surprises. People are mean, can't have that chaos running through my sancuary at all hours. No more of that. So I can't complain that my best mates are Foosters, can I?:o

Sorry I bummed you out, and I think I am doing a bit better, but that is just my opinion.
BTW, the bite wound finally stopped bleeding and I am not even limping noticeably. Well, not too noticeably.

It was an elbow attack/disarm (he was unarmed), but thanks for making me amusified.:thumb:

I'm rarely inclined to accept dogs biting humans, but in this case, he was giving you fair warning.

Last time someone stopped by unexpectedly I was in the middle of a timed on-line test and told her so...she (a former neighbor who wanted free fitness training by befriending me; my BS detector works fine) said she'd be just a minute (was in the neighborhood  -- she lives a mile away). Gullible me, the nice girl, let her in and about 90 minutes of pointless gossip later told her I *had* to finish the test, I'll give you a call, don't let the door hit you on the way out. :innocent:

That was 3 years ago. She hasn't been back since.

If my dogs had bitten her I'd have called it right there. Animals know.

Eh, well I just choose not to sit on anything really. Before this oversized chair moved in I was sitting on the floor even though I had a bed and chair with a desk to sit on.

This is a carbon account of what happened to me. Lives 1.5 miles away, never bothers, drops by "for a minute"...shovels gossip and tripe for and hour...then abrubtly leaves. Only difference is, he was bit straightaway as he walked in the entrance hall. Mind you, my dog has had extensive training since a pup. Nothing random about him. For example, a piano tuner came by, a man I had never met, and while given a barked warning and a good snif, was not attacked. And that guy was kind of creepy/nerdy in a " I don't get out much/haven't kissed a girl" sort of way. But my old chum seems laid back and cool....hmmm.... I suspect things aren't always what they seem by appearances. The conversation did turn kind of ugly, which I hate. I wish it could have been smoother, a cup of tea and a friendly chat.

Now I understand this whole thing better (I hope). I do not need to be friends with this person (I think).

I believe this is what the phrase "dog on it" means.:thumb:

Dipper that's weird that he lives so close and yet just now dropped in...then again, maybe not so weird...

sounds to me like he definitely needed to make himself feel good....by coming over and poohing on you. Which is an ass thing to do, and your dog is indeed smart for sussing out precisely what needed to be done in return, right from the get-go. I say good riddance to that guy.

once upon a time there was a young man who was stalkin-i mean, kinda dating me. Kind of. Until he "just dropped by" on a day I specifically asked him not to because I was not feeling well, busy, and crabby-- and he "just dropped by" anyway.

He has never been seen again :innocent:

I just realized that while most people are mean, I am very grateful for knowing such a cool dog as Sly.

I am also grateful for the Foo Emo Patrol, as my anxiety levels are all over the charts. I honestly am just beating myself up for being such a sensitive soul. Seems like people generally get along better when they only look out for themselves. Maybe It would have been better for me to say "oh, my dog bit you because he doesn't like you...Good dog. I don't like you either." But I want harmony too much for that kind of harsh response. The reality is, not many people respect or care about harmony. It's all about power. achievement, and one-upmanship. This is sad, but the faster I let it sink in the better off I'll be.

Easy for me to say, don't be stressed. Much harder for you to stay calm.

I too like harmony. Fits my personality much better, you know? I just let it flow over me. They wind up with the stress, not me.

Any time is tea time, at least if one is English  .

However, I would make an effort to let you know I'm coming, rather than just showing up one day!
