Southwest - Phoenix/Tempe, AZ - Light Rail Kickoff

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm just curious, with the Metro Light Rail getting ready to launch and the kickoff party set to take place after Christmas, how many of you local cyclists are planning on wandering around the festivities? They're claiming to have a 20 Mile party in the works, the entire length of the light rail.
I might scoot around, see how well the thing works, score free food and drinks and whatnot.

That sounds like something worth coming up from Casa Grande for, especially the 20 miles of free drinks part...

Bikes were prohibited on the rail for the first day. I took mine on Sunday, still crowded. The party in Tempe was fun, we (T.B.A.G) operated a bicycle valet. There certainly wasn't free booze flowing nor many cyclists. Lots of families riding for free cause it was something to do.
There is a meetup group planning light rail bar hops, search light rail on meetup.com.
The organization I'm with is currently working on a 2009 calendar of events, we plan on offering bicycle valet at some of the larger Tempe events. There are recurring rides on Tue & Wed (info on azfixed.com, look for CRAP and PISS rides).
