Who wants to ride with a vacationing Midwesterner in or around Pompano? My riding days will be Wed, Thursday and Friday of next week (Dec 24-26) Looking to get a few miles in with others while in town. I was told about some group rides in the area but not sure I am up for 6:00am rides while on vacation....

Will most likely be commuting from Pompano to Boynton on the 24th around 3 pm. 20 miles at medium speed if you're interested.

I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'll probably be up for a ride on the 26th.

I think I have all three days off of work, i'm not the fastest rider but may be available. I know you were interested in the ride in flamingo. A closer ride would be the shark valley ride which i love, a 15 mile loop with lots of cool stuff through the everglades. I usually go around 2-3 times, i have a season pass so admission would be on me if you are interested.

What's the surface there Jess? Is it blacktop or gravel?

Well kept blacktop, no traffic except a tram tour that rolls through about once an hour. Here is a pic I took from an observation tower at the southern most end of the road. There is some discoloration to the road because it gets flooded during the high water season, but they do a great job keeping it in shape.

I saw your picture thread Jess. It was wonderful. Looks a fun place for a nice ride. What day are you planning on doing a ride out there? I am off to bed. Hitting the road around 5:30am tomorrow and plan to make at least Jacksonville before we stop for the night. Thanks for the replys

I go there pretty much everyday I don't work, so four times a week lol. It is only a 20 minute drive for me. The bad thing for you is that it is about an 1 and 1/2 hour drive from pompano. You may be able to find rides further north, but it is up to you.

I do know I want to spend a few hours somewhere within the Everglades. I go every year and find the place amazing! I have just never visited the park by bike.

In my opinion it is incredible, I am really into reptiles and that is like reptile heaven, I have seen at least 7 different types of snakes, alligators, turtles, lizards, birds, fish all kinds of cool stuff. Best part about being on bike is that you can pretty much ride up unoticed.

I'd always wondered if Everglades National Park had any roads worth riding on. That looks really nice. What is the Flamingo ride? I've always wanted to take a drive and spend the day down there.
Shark Valley is indeed pretty cool. My step-father used to ride out there every weekend until he was 79.
Just watch out for the alligators!

I'm off the 24-26, but the 26th would be the best day for me, a good day to work off christmas dinner. Shoot me a pm if you are down for the ride, I did 100k there yesterday. We could take a more leisurely ride if you like or we can bring the road bikes and take it easy as well.

I think I may need to back out. After being the OP of this thread I feel bad. The kids and wife so much planned for us this week I need to get my miles in while I can around here. We arrived yesterday afternoon and so far I have in 65 miles just around Pompano-Boca
