Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
and any other events or anything you could think of.
lets do it
what events?
where?
when?
who will be drinking? haha
should there be a steak dinner at the end?

I'd love it if we had alleycats, a critical mass every month, a weekly(or more often) ride etc.....
It'd be nice.
Roadies have their clubs/rides/meetings/rallies so why can't we??!!

As far as I know, the reason there isn't currently any critical mass, alley cat, or weekly ss/fg ride in Dallas is simply lack of interest.
If you're organizing such an event, you might consider how to do so without limiting participation.
If you set this up so that only males ages 20-23, who ride single-speed fixed-gear bikes, drink alcohol in the mornings, eat meat, are fit, race but are not roadies, run red lights, don't wear lycra, etc., you can successfully narrow it down to a half-dozen or fewer people and it's simply a non-event.
If you can set it up where anyone can come and have fun, you have the "Tour Dallas" with 2,000 participants.

Take a look at some of those clubs/rides/rallies. I'm not a roadie, I ride a single speed bike, I don't wear lycra, I'm 48, overweight, etc. Yet I've been riding the no-drop ride at the local bike shop- and I'm perfectly welcome there. I've ridden quite a few of the local rallies and I'm welcome there. I think I'd be welcome at quite a few of the club rides if I could only keep up, and the randoneurs would be glad to have me if I could make the distance. I dropped by the local Cyclocross race and was invited to ride a lap or two around the track, no less. My point is that if getting enough people involved is a challenge, the less exclusive you can make it, the better off you are.

There was a Critical Mass ride in Dallas. There was a Yahoo Group (dfwcitycyclist) that advertised it, but the URL for it (http://www.dallascriticalmass.org/) is now a spam blog. As far as I can tell it died due to lack of interest.

I guess I won't try my "Vegan cute girls who might enjoy the company of bearded beer drinking somewhat funny guy ride"

i'm 26.
i don't drink. anytime.
i'm fat. not fit.
i don't race.
i trackstand at red lights.
i wear lycra on rides over 40 miles.
If someone plans and promotes a alleycat, people will show up. Lots of people, depending on how heavily it is promoted. But StephenH is right, these things need to be all-inclusive if you're looking to enrich bike culture in DFW. Race whatever bike you want in whatever clothes you want. Maybe a low-entry fee ($2-5), male & female winner split the purse. You'll need checkpoint workers.

I'll work a check point. And aren't Alley Cats by definition single speed races? I don't own one and I'm not much of a racer, that's why I'm happy to be a worker but I wanted to confirm that Alley Cats are ss/fg races, yes?
Chris
Not necessarily. Many people choose to ride a fixed gear. Many don't. I've raced on my fixed and I've raced on my geared bike (with better results). :-)
However, it does make for a more competitive race if people are riding the same style of bike.
yeah i agree.
when i posted this i wasnt thinking exclusive to any sort of rider whether it be bike clothes or age.
we just need to organize something fun in dallas for everyone.
if we set a date we can all start inviting people and start organizing things
