Folding Bikes - And yet another unusual foldie I saw yesterday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

in Okinawa. More tiny wheels.
This one is a KHS iped. You can see the tail end of the last one I posted as well in this photo.

Sorry dude... I didn't see it from that angle until you pointed it out to me.
I'm in a cross-cultural marriage myself, and my wife and I include our idiosyncrasies as part of our family humor culture. It slipped out out of sheer delight when I saw the bike, but I need to be a little bit more considerate as this is not always the case with other people. I didn't mean anything derogatory by it... although I can now see that it can be interpreted that way.

It's a cute bike, but if I had a say so in the design, I would have used the same size wheels on both ends...either 12" or 16". Keeping two different sizes of inner tubes is not that fun:rolleyes:

pocko....no sweat.
I still give my wife an "Oh rearry" from time to time.
And I still get a punch in the arm every time.

Oh, I kinda knew you'd be cool with it... I was just taking other people into consideration... :)
Sayonara for now, TrekJapan-san! :thumb:

nice crank forward position!

Edward, you didn't read the specs! :roflmao2:These special high-tech 16" and 12" wheels both utilize 20" rims and Kenda 20 x 1.75 tires! Clearly the designers know a thing or two we haven't figured out.
Other innovative features include an extra-small front wheel for a lively ride. The crank-forward design is sure to keep the rider on his toes (lest s/he get his/her toes in the front wheel). Arguably these will only be issues at low speed which, with a 40T chain ring, will be the only speed. In top gear the rider will have to spin over 120 rpm to get up to 15 mph.
I especially like the color scheme: you can have any color you want (red, blue, white) as long as it's liquid chrome.

Maybe it's just an "optical illusion" that the wheels don't look like they're 20"
All kidding aside, perhaps the really small front wheel is to minimize the "toe strike" when turning. I don't know. It's still a cute bike though:thumb:

Amazing! Wicked! Someone finally came up with a design for a 16"/12" wheeled, 20" tyred non folding folder! GENIUS!
Looks like it falls into the 'fold-free' zone to me! LOL!

We had a folding bike ride and festival in NYC this past weekend. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about, look at, and try many different kinds of folding bikes. I have to say that the khs i-ped was actually one of my favorites. The first question out of my mouth was why the front wheel was smaller than the rear wheel and the demonstrator claimed it was to enable the "pedal forward" position. I took it out for a test ride and I have to say it felt amazingly comfortable and "civilized" to ride. I loved sitting completely upright--is this what everyone loves about Dutch city bicycles?--and with a sub-$500 price, I would strongly consider (and am considering) adding this little bike to my fleet.
Unfortunately, I didn't see it folded, so I don't know how compact it gets. The downtube doesn't fold (which may contribute to the comfort of the bike), but it has the other standard features--retractable seat post, folding handlebar stem, and folding pedals.
..is this what everyone loves about Dutch city bicycles?
Actually this is what a lot of people (including me) don't like.
