Mountain Biking - Help with bike value/Specialized FSR Sport
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey all, I am looking to get back into riding and dont need anything too crazy. I am looking at this Specialized FSR Sport on ebay, and wanted some opinions. I believe it is a '99. He will take $450 for it, and I wanted to know if it is worth that, or should I be looking elsewhere/newer model? I am 5'10", athletic 220lbs, and like long walks on the beach. Thanks for any input. -JG
Link was bad for me but it seems to be this one here?:
Interesting mix of high-end wheels and lower-end FSR. With the ugly-long stem and the boat-anchor tractor seat and everything else stock, I would say $450 is at the outer limits of what it's worth. The frame itself is fine but the stock RS Deluxe shock may be a bit long in the tooth as far as life expectancy.
Thanks for the advice, do you have any suggestions given my size, and the fact that I will be riding around town mostly with occasional weekend trail rides? Something used in the $3-$500 range, hardtail?

Look into 29ers.

Something along the lines of a Giant Rincon - - new, mind you - - is at the upper end of that range and is a cut above something like the Boulder SE (also a fine bike).
You're going to encounter a lot of choices, so be sure to just get out and ride a few, pick the one that has the best 'feel' to you.

Oh, LOL, I was seeing another zero. You might look for a close out trek 4500.

If you're interested, I've got a 2005 Giant Rainier (http://archive.giant-bicycles.com/us/030.000.000/030.000.006.asp?year=2005&model=11037) with an upgraded crank, Thomson seat post, and a few other good bits along with a newer upgrade shock that you might be interested in. Here's the local ad (http://www.bikeiowa.com/asp/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=4340&forum_id=2&Topic_Title=FS%3A+Giant+Rainier+Mountain+Bike+%2817%26quot%3B+&forum_title=Bike+Classifieds+%28Buy%2C+Sell%2C+Trade%29&M=True&S=True) I put up.
