Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have been a regular cyclist for years, with about 85,000 miles on my Austro-Daimler bike since I got it in 1979. I am now riding about 10 miles each way to work, with the Portland west hills giving me about 500 feet of elevation in the middle of my ride. I don't trust pebbles or lights enough, so in the dark months (until March 8) I only ride 1-2 days per week when I can get out early. I am just now considering adding a new bike to my stable for the first time in 30 years. I would love to have sometihing that makes me feel as somfortable and at home as the home bike, but has some jump. I plan to continue to do an occasional long ride, but the 10 miles in 30-40 minutes that makes my legs sing will be the center of my riding. Any thoughts about the bike for me?
After not biking from the early seventies ( and just having my 70'th birthday this summer).
I decided to get back to biking...
I went to the LBS and liked the first bike I tried...A Specialized Sequoia Elite....
They did not have an Elite in my size so I ordered the Specialized Sequoia Comp.
I like the Sequoia family because they sit the rider a bit more in an upright position and
come with a three sprocket front chain ring and a 10 gear rear cassette.

i retired my 1980 A/D "Inter10" with Huret comps in 1999 after being hit by buick. used to go all over the place with my "fast tourer", biggest hi-lite was 200.0 miles in 15.5 hours (never again)!
i have been happy with aluminum framed Cannondale sx, pretty quick/responsive!
also, for commuting, i use Performance tange d/b vitessa, steady,
tour with bike Nash 7000t chro-moly d/b longer wheel base,
find what bike works for you! test rides are in store!
welcome x2!!
