Road Cycling - Ionic Bicycles

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Somebody on this forum told me about them. They'll build a true temper s3 frame for 900! bucks. It's called the Nemis Sci or something like that. Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with their stuff? I'm really really interested in the frame, seeing as how all the custom frame builders i was looking at want about 2,000 to build a true temper frame. I mean, for 1700 i can get a colnago dream plus b stay. I probably don't want to spend more than 1300-1400 on the frame.
Also, how does the colnago master x light ride? I can get the frame for about 1400, and it looks pretty sweet.

I think that the gunnars are around that price, maybe a bit cheaper, and they are 853 steel. They might go custom. not sure though.

What's a Gunnar?
And isn't True Temper S3 much much lighter?

www.gunnarbikes.com. 853 is pretty freakin light, man.
Hi,
if it is in any way possible; try to test ride the Roadie. The Schwinn family makes a good bike.
I was the one that mentioned Ionic Bikes. What attracted me was that they are all handmade in the good ol USA and you can choose compact or standard designs. I believe they will even custom make it for you if you have an unusual body type. Paint schemes are also customizable. Additionally, they won't **** you for an Ouzo Pro fork (approx $250) like some others do.
Unfortunately, you can't ride one first and I couldn't tell you the ride difference between 853 and S3. I was going to bust a move on one until I was able to get into a '03 Fondriest for $1300. Whick, BTW, is something else you might look into.
My suggestion, talk to 'em and see what they have to say... Good Luck!!

MtnMan, Ionic only sells on the internet, right? Too bad-- i live too far away to check them out.
Anyway, have you ever seen/ridden one of their bikes? How's the build quality?

Too bad they're associated with Dean, as I've sworn to myself that I'll NEVER deal with that company again....

I am not sure if they are internet only, probably not if you live in CO?
I have never seen one, that's what makes them unique. Matter of fact, there aren't even any reviews on Roadbikereview.com... You would definetly be the first one on your street with one ;) , maybe even in your city.
Sorry I can't be more help.
One manufacturer I can attest to is Fondriest. If you are not averse to a black bike, the Status Carb is steel with a carbon fiber seat tube. At $1300, you can't go wrong. Check it out:

Rippin', care to explain why you won't deal w/Dean any longer? Feel free to e-mail me (dje@mindspring.com) or PM me if you don't want to do it publicly. I've had a Colonel MTB from them since '01, and love it.

That Fondriest looks beautiful! And the price is right too...
Thanks for all the input, I'm going to test ride a bunch more bikes and then get back to you guys.
