Foo - Serendipper's LP Collection / Rare or Beloved LP's Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Don't be surprised if I contact either of you with cash offers or trinkets. :innocent:

i dont own many, but i have the only 3 anyone should ever need:
http://triton.imageshack.us/Himg242/scaled.php?server=242&filename=1218081946fb8.jpg&xsize=578&ysize=480
well, ok everyone should have 2112 and exit stage left as well. ok everyone needs every rush record.
I could live with those three.
Sorry for the ultra-crappy pictures, but a few fun ones hanging on the wall:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b359/x136/misc-crap/records/img_1285.jpg
Not a record, but an original poster:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b359/x136/misc-crap/records/img_1288.jpg
And sadly enough, this is where the majority of the records live. :( I want to address this situation before they all get ruined. I know a lot of the albums from this thread are in there, but I don't even know the extent.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b359/x136/misc-crap/records/img_1289.jpg
I don't have any modern LPs, but there are a few albums I wouldn't mind having in LP form, at least for the art.

the rest... the rest of the photos, that is. obviously not the whole amassed collection. I started collecting just when everyone finally started giving up their LPs and giving in to the CD switchover. Early '90's to 2004 (coincidentally slowing down my aquisitions with the birth of my first.) Now it's just the random dig at Goodwill now and then. No more record shops, flea markets and such. :(
Eventually I started collecting for posterity... I want my sons to have access to real music in album form as they grow up. My oldest is already something of a musician and loves music, so it looks like it will see use as soon as I can trust him to dig through himself. My 1 year old has among his limited vocabulary this word: "Reh- cod! Reh- cod!"
and "bike!"
I'm not surprised that a forum with many vintage bike lovers also has some audiophile LP collectors.

Just the tip of the iceberg, BB. :) Those are some of the choice cuts, though-- I sure have a LOT of total crap, too.
The Monk plays Ellington is a fine recording. I mean, it's Monk. Playing Ellington. Not as classic as Monk. or Straight No Chaser though. I should give it another listen soon. Monk really has a deep sense of melody as he plsys with the chords and rhythms, I think, so familliar tunes like Ellington's are a pleasure to ear as he interprets them.
Thanks,
I will have to keep my eye out for that one.

Only the choice cuts for this thread.;) Preferably the rarest of the rare or out of print records.
I'm disappointed in the Musical Heritage Society's discography right now. They don't have the Mendelsshon Die erste Walpurgisnact Op. 60 suite from A Midsummer Night's Dream by the Royal Philharmonic, making my copy rare, but also meaning that I'm going to have trouble tracking down the rest of the piece. Not to mention I will definitely need to find this camera, because finding the cover art on the web is impossible. One of the coolest covers too. I wanted you all to see it.

No way to play it anymore, as I don't have a turntable anymore, but how about an original WAX Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey?
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o260/TomStormcrowe/rainey-proveit78.jpg
How you can you have Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey sitting around a house with no turntables?
Turntables are like bikes, you gotta have at least 3 or 4.

Here's another rare and cool original. Led Zepplin's In Through The Out Door featuring my favourite shuffle "Fool In The Rain". When you wiped the inner sleeve with a wet cloth it would turn the B&W image to colour. I have the original, unwiped LP.

That Tomita Planets record is something else.... but it's a bit too "Disco Star Wars" for me...
I would love to hear what Wendy Carlos would have done with Holst.
That Aqualung and Spyro Gyra record are extra common, though.... but I'd love that Mr. Magic disc.
Not going to snap a photo right now, but I have these funky records, mint:

I don't have much of this on CD so it was nice to hear it all again after quite some time.....
in the suburbs I had these ginormous old walnut cabinet JBL speakers I'd drag out into the back yard on holidays and throw vegetarian bbqs.....people would be up dancing on the speakers and whatnot....good times. I would be imbibing copiously but still somehow had the presence of mind and soundness of body to sprint down stairs to my turntable every 20 mins or so to flip the LPs....dunno I'd be able to hack that these days.:o
