Foo - Serendipper's LP Collection / Rare or Beloved LP's Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Horselips with a concertina-shaped cover? Must be some good skiffle , eh? Interesting.
yes - the cd reissue doesn't include the best cut - a reel played super loud and fast a la pogues.
Quirky lp, best enjoyed with whoever got that hookah for xmas:innocent:

bad news is one of the two discs was missing when it came to me.
good news is the one that is there has the sides that Monk did with Bean - his first recordings ever....he plays straight - for Monk - but you can def. still tell it's him, and he is def. too cool for school right out of the gate:thumb:
Dorky archivists like me plotz over packages like this...the LOC did all these amazing albums complete with annotations, lyrics, critiques and analysis, recording data, bibliographies and discographies, etc.

This volume covers westward expansion...includes some disturbing but fascinating musical commentaries on the building of the Panama Canal, the Railroads etc. with ugly racist overtones at times.
*sigh*

I haven't owned a vinyl album in 20 years.
You know...ever since they became obsolete.

Those stones LPs are older than they look! ;)

Here's my GD collection. (not the tapes... just the vinyl!)
Here are my GD tapes (in the white boxes) in the garage that collapsed xmas eve. They've made 4-5 moves in the last 10 yrs w/o being unpacked. Can also see my daughter's burley trailer and 16" bike.
My mom has most of those Stones records purchased in real time, and the cotemporal Beatles releases. I got to dismantle them all (break the zipper on Sticky Fingers, cut out the paper costume stuff from Sgt Pepper...)

I hear reasonable quality tapes (high bias or metal) can be sold for media (and sold for a lot if still sealed) but I don't know about salvage value.
Great thread.
I used to have an AR record player. I have a much better one now, don't use it
all that much.
Oh, if the guy who asked about Klaatu is still around... I have a couple of their records. Still play 'em. They are kinda a scifi beatles.
Long live Politzania!
I'm not even gonna try for photos, lets just say that my 500 strong record collection that I started in about 1968 increased by about 10 fold in the late 80s when everyone was dumping LPs for pennies on the dollar and replacing them with CDs. If I had to guess, the single artist I've got more of than anyone else on LP would have to be Frank Zappa.
For a while I was reconditioning and reselling vintage turntables, but I think I was a bit ahead of the times on that one...when I play vinyl these days it's usually on a Thorens TT, but I've still got a few others to choose from, plus a crapload of new, used and NOS parts including styluses and cartridges packed up somewhere.

yes. in fact many are liking the type I cheapo tapes for taping CDs,,,,,,supposedly adding 'warmth'
dunno if I buy that, but I do think I like Type IIs better than metal tapes.

Really? Using a cassette as your d>a converter sounds kinda like converting .wav to .mp3 to reduce 'hiss' (actually I have done that for some 78s, 78>wav>mp3, and I'm happy enough w/ that but I know it's a flawed solution...).
I agree on the II vs metal but I'm told I've never had a good enough system to appreciate metal in the 1st place. It's possible that the deck in my car right now could handle it (German engineering and all that)

Remember this rarity? It contained the hit "White Bird", but the rest of the album wasn't that great. It sold for around $350 in the mid-1990s, so I sold my copy back then. Recently repurchased a copy at a used record store for $5 to hang on my wall (I like the picture).

Heh, it just so happens that I bought a handful of pristine old 78s yesterday at an antique store for $20. I don't recognize any of the songs, but they were in such good condition that I couldn't resist. I've listened to a few already and they are great. :D

I have so far generally stayed away from 45's and 78's... it's a slippery slope...
