Do i need to trim the back of the cleat covers? it seems the lip wont fit around the back of the cleat. they are kool kovers

I assume you are talking about Look cleats? Mine slip on and off the cleats just fine (red cleats). I put the covers over the nose of the cleat, pull back and snap them over the rear.

perhaps the spring tension is set too tight.

you can screw them to loosen the cleat?
