Introductions - hello there!...

i'm new to bmx..i've read a lot about it but still i'm confused with what bike i'll buy for myself..

i want a bike that's durable, fast, and could be used in long distance riding..

i don't want to use a mountain bike cause its got so many stuff, it's more complicated, and more expensive..

please help me...

Most start with a mountain type.
Then end up with a road bike.

I think BMX and long distance are mutually exclusive.

Looking at the Olympics, the BMX event was mostly down hill, and done in 30 seconds... most other cyclists aren't even considered warmed up in 30 seconds. ;)

A mountain bike doesn't have to be complex. If you get one without suspension, there are a few things to maintain like shifters and derailleurs, but they are really pretty simple machines. Just avoid those at K-mart/Walmart etc, and try to look at a real bike shop. The initial expense will be a bit higher, but the quality is higher too.

Howdy, well BMX is usually a 20 inch wheeled, "single speed" bicycle are you sure you don't mean MTB for Mountain bike?? BMX bikes are made to race on short moto-X style race tracks or run around with your friends in the local area. If you want to go long distances, you'll WANT the multi-speed bicycles, either a Mountain bicycle or a Road bicycle, jmho.

Jamis bicycles makes a MTB without "any" supension, it's a X1-Trail, it's about as inexpensive as a MTB get's but if your not into "heavy single" track off road riding, it would do decent getting you out to do more distance riding and yet still handle dirt paths and mellow single track. I know the ultra-MTB riders here will poo-poo the X1-Trail but you wanted inexpensive, some off road capability and a bicycle that you could do some distance riding on, That would be my choice.

If your budget won't let you buy at a LBS (local bicycle shop), then pick up a RoadMaster Mnt. Sport SX at Wal-Mart, take it to a LBS and have them do a "tune-up" on it, (it's worth every dime you'll spend as Dept. Store Assemblers SUCK!). Due to having severe financial problems at the moment, that's what I did. It will get to riding till you can get a "Much Better" bicycle in the future. Hope this helps.
