Great Lakes - Holy Jeez ... that's a lot o' snow!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Almost a foot, if not actually a foot in my yard already. Still snowing.

I got home from work, but it wasn't easy! Okay, I admit I'm very biased when it comes to driving in snow. You see, I love it! I've always been a wanna-be rally car racer, so when it snows, I go for a drive ... just to drive in the snow. I've got AWD, Blizzak snow tires, and I know how to use 'em ... but it was BAD this morning! :p I took some side roads coming home from work and had snow coming up and over the hood. State HWY 36 was one lane, 30mph MAX, with near white-out conditions, and every once in a while, you'd run up and over a drift you never saw. The exit off of 36 was one set of old tracks, and I wasn't sure that I could make it ... that's BAD! :D

Arriving home after stopping for groceries, I find a 4 ft wall of snow at the end of my driveway, so I park the car in the road, grab the grain scoop out of the 'boot' and shovel enough to at least get off the road, then gunned it in first gear, plowing with the front bumper as I went.

Rally is the greatest motorsport... ever. I had one of the first generation WRX's. Man that thing was fun in the snow. I used to rallycross it up at Union Grove and Blackhawk Farms. Good times.

Ever been to any of the US National Rallys (I think they're run by Rally America, now). I started going to the Lake Superior Pro Rally in 1996 or 1997. Was a great time until they "changed" the whole spectator situation.

Wilke-That's a great attitude regarding the snow...I wish my attitude was similar. I'm more like Hip....I hate it & it makes me grouchy. In fact, it seemed all my neighbors got grouchy after the plow trucks came down our street for the 3rd time, dumping piles in our driveways each time. I spent 4 hours shoveling yesterday, and that's with the help of a very generous neighbor who came through with a plow attached to a little ATV & got my driveway. I really don't hate snow, I just hate snow removal. I'm fearful for the week ahead.

I'm jealous, that snow is awesome, we didn't get near that much from the storm

Life is too short to grumble about something like snow. Shoveling is great exercise. I'd rather shovel in the fresh air than lift weights in the basement. I learn from the cyclocrossers who are out in the cold rain with beer and music - having a party! Trying to fix a second computer, then I'm out the door to enjoy it all.
