Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - $30 at the thrift store!

Anyway, my friend Logan gave me 35$ for it and we are going to get him a new wheelset and crankset, and probably new seat, some brakes and a bmx freewheel and make him a ss!



We're both so excited about it and I just had to show someone.
By the way the deraliuer (sp) would be off but I don't have an allen wrench, lol.

the peugeot from that auction is some sort of vitus tubing which i think is aluminum, yours doesn't appear to be vitus and is probably steel, but i don't know anything about peugeots so i may be wrong

far from the auction bike, but if you don't have to change BB, headset, seatpost, etc. it should clean up nicely for whatever. FWIW, I have the same bike as the auction link (not as 'prettied up' nor as tall, but same Super Vitus frame material) and that frame mat'l is great. It's steel, btw, not aluminum. I think there were bikes made by Vitus or something that may have been aluminum....check C&V for accurate details. It also has English BB threading....a nice surprise to keep the anti-French bike crowd from buying a bike before you find it!

The sticker on the downtube will tell you what the frame is. Same graphics were put on a WIDE variety of frame mat'ls....gotta love the '80s when there were so many options to choose from! :)

A PSVN-10 is Vitus 980, Lugged steel, super light, around Reynolds 753 area light. Vitus 979 Is Aluminum.
I have an '82 PSN-10 waiting to be built up, it's scary thin, you can feel the top tube flex between thumb and forefinger.

The O.P.'s bike is Peugeot HLE, it's basic carbon steel. And it's internally brazed.

Neither is bad, I've had several Carbolite 103/HLE bikes, they ride pretty nice.

Just curious why you would change the crankset, it is the only nice part on the bike! I own 2 of these bikes... They are pretty good for conversions, my current winter rig is one of these. All you need is get a set of short stack bolts and pull one ring off of the crank and you will be fine. New pedals would make a much bigger difference.

I love how it clearly says 'Iseran' on it, but you make up that it's some other model... lol.

Ahh.. ok, that's cool that it's not the bike in the auction. We were just trying to find a usable frame and other components to get him a cheap beater singlespeed, which we have successfully found. And about the crankset, the right crank arm is not the original, it was replaced, and the bolt that holds it on has been completely stripped and our LBS is going to get it fixed.

I'm just happy I have someone to ride with now

cool, if the bike find makes you that happy, then who cares what model it is, a large majority of people wouldn't care or notice the dif. except on bikeforums. You'll be a lot happier if you don't share your happiness on here. Good luck with the build

I just picked up an 85 PSN10 at a thrift store, it has the Super Vitus 980 frame and it is being considered for a ss/fg. This thing is super light. You may want to invest in some hex wrenches if you decide to build bikes..

But I have a bike, my friend and I have even gone and taken turns on it because he doesn't have one and wants one so bad. Now we can ride together :]

My first "Real" 10- speed was a Peugeot P6, Had a P8, and I have a PH10L.
Build that thing and have fun.

This is my next one, an '83 I guess. Probably into a Townie.

This sounds like a great excuse to learn how to build a set of wheels; if you have someone with some experience around to help, you could really learn a ton about bike assembly and construction.

Sheldon's writing on wheel building has me really excited to run my current wheelset into the ground!

Sheldon's instructions on wheel building are very good. I used them as a reference when I built my first set of wheels three years ago . . . . . . . er, first set of wheels after getting out of the bike business and selling off all my bikes in 1977, that is.

Brought the memories back and cleared out the cobwebs real well.

+1 on Sheldon's instructions on wheel building. Hell, if I can build straight wheels I reckon my siamese could, let alone a normal human.
