Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Centurion info?

does anyone have any info on this centurion? http://tulsa.craigslist.org/bik/957085139.html would it be a good conversion for my girlfriend? she wants a bike for her birthday and if it fits ill get it for her. but aside from size. from the photo does anyone know what type of centurion it is and would it be a good first bike for my gf?

or would this Peugeot Iseran be a better deal?

The centurion is way better than the Peugeot. The Peugeot has a weird seatpost size.

The Centurion is low-end, but decent. Probably a Le Mans. The ones from that era that I've seen have paint that chips easily. Try to get it for less.

I love my Centurion, I rescued it from the garage sale left overs one day. It was a rolling pile of chipping paint, rusted steel and rotting tires. The frame is pretty sound, tolerant of abuse and repairable. From the looks of the one in the add, that one is much better. Watch out for the wheels as they are likely steel and would have a reduced braking capacity when wet (common for most bikes of that age) and not a problem unless you ride in the rain or find big puddle to go through.

I just replace my beaten 60's Raleigh frame with a Centurion Accordo (about the same or a step under what you're looking at) and put a bit over 100 miles on it to work out the bugs. I really like the frame, comfortable, quick handling, very good quality for a low line bike. That's indicative of the entire Centurion line - if it's in good shape, it's a safe buy.

Next stop for mine is a teardown and off to the powder coater after the New Year.
