Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Most folks who ride the TA end up at Yorktown - if you're willing to go a bit further for a much better ending consider doubling back to Williamsburg (you'll pass by the College Deli on this route, which is a great place to pig out. Also camping use to be had at Cheatam Annex and the Coast Guard Station for those with military connections, not sure of the current policy now, but I can check. For those with BSA membership, there are two scout camps in the area, which in the summer you can bum a shower and buy a meal for a few bucks).
From Williamsburg the connect the dot route is this, Westpoint to Reedsville. Take the ferry to Tangier Island, then another ferry to Crisfield. From Crisfield head to Lewes and take the Cape May ferry to Cape May. Atlantic City is a day's ride north. Basto is worth the extra miles.

Another thought is when entering Virginia is to drop south for the New River Trail that comes out at Galax. Continue south into North Carolina and pick up NC Bike route 4 and ride all the to Currituck. Take the free ferry across and head north to Virginia Beach.

If you're interested in any of these route just post on this forum and I'll detail them out for you........

I'll be moving to Yorktown this summer, what is the TransAmerica?
When is it? If it's after I get there (June), I'd be happy to help out any cyclists there.

A Trans America is a journey across the USA, not a race or an organized event. Most riders doing a TA ride west to east. I've done two crossings, plus several partials as I'm trying to create and enjoy a route that has very little asphalt along the way. If you would like to assist riders who make the journey this forum would be a great place to post that info....for example some riders may need an assist to the airport in Norfolk since crossing the James River Bridge on bikes is a big no no. And, unlike San Diego, and a few other places, the Tidewater bus system has yet to add bike racks to get riders across forbidden territory.

On a side note, I think you will enjoy Yorktown. Lots of great riding there, just watch the traffic - lots of rubber neckers during the summer, along with very muggy heat.....
