There are a number of good shops in Sacramento. Lots of nice roadies over at the Bicycle Business, and College Cyclery is known for vintage stuff (they have lots of old Schwinns in there). Both are on Freeport Blvd. to the north of Sacramento City College. Custom builder Steve Rex has a new larger location over on E Street.

I tend to Bicycles Plus in Folsom.

Let's see, in downtown, there's Mike's Bikes, City Bicycle Works, Bicycle Chef. On Howe there's a Performance Bike. Sunrise Fair Oaks has a Bob's Cycle Center. Folsom has Bicycle Plus as mentioned earlier.

What are you looking for?

You must be up visiting? The cool thing about Sacramento is that we have a ton of great shops all over. I live near downtown, so I use Natomas Bike Shop (www.natomasbikeshop.com) and Mike's Bikes (www.mikesbikes.com). The people at both shops are awesome, extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Mike's is much bigger and nicer, but NBS has more of the local shop feel to it, IMO.

Try Ikon Cycles- 18th and L. Small shop, great service, custom-fitting.

I've bought from City Bike Works in the past. Decent shop. If you can include Davis, Davis Wheelworks is my shop of choice. Davis has four other good shops in a four block radius.

Sacramento is my hometown so I do get up there quite a bit. In this case, however, my mom is looking to get my baby sister a bike for Christmas. From what she's planning to use it for (commuting over city streets) I'm thinking she wants a entry level road bike.

Mostly though, I'd like to get a reputable shop who'll find her the bike she needs, not the one their trying to offload. Sounds like I've already got a few to choose from.
(Bonus points for something out near Rancho Cordova, but Sacramento isn't so big that driving a ways is a problem)

American River Bicycles. Pretty dang close to Rancho anyway (on Folsom a little East of Watt). Bob's Cycle Center is in Rancho (Fair Oaks and Sunrise I think).

Fair Oaks and Sunrise isn't Rancho, but its not that far. Which of the two would you recommend to a Noob?

ya, its Fair Oaks ;) . Theres a performance at Sunrise and Madison too.

I stick to Roseville and Rocklin LBSs myself - there's a Bob's in Roseville too. I tried to find Bicycles Plus one weekend over the summer and had no luck :(

Haha I lived near that corner for about 2 years. My friends would always yell "Rancho" the second I would say Fair Oaks. They knew it was Fair Oaks, and they knew I didn't like to be told I lived in Rancho.
