I got my Bionx with battery in early August of 2008. It's a PL (lithium) 250, so the battery is supposed to take me about 18 miles on power assist number 4. I've ridden it almost 500 miles now, and the battery isn't holding up. I'm figuring it has gone about 30-40 cycles. On the last trip of 10 miles, the charge was almost gone by the time I got home. It's cold now, and I know the batteries don't do so well in the cold. However, it's Phoenix-type cold, which means temperatures in the 40's and 50's. (That's above zero in Farenheit.) I did also run it down to zero bars one time.

The battery has a year warranty. Should I send it back?

I'd definitely try to send it back if you're still under warranty. Especially since you probably paid a little extra for that bionic system.

For what Bionx charges for their battery I'd be all over sending it back if it's not meeting specifications.

I'm not sure of what chemistry they use, I rode my LiFEPO4 bike last Wednesday with snow on the ground and ambient 25F. I fared much worse than the pack :(

Just wanted to let everyone know that the battery is working much better now. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but I charged it a couple of times, and now it's up to capacity, if not more.

I'm going 10 miles at level 4 on half a charge (meeting specs +) Also, I've been using throttle at intersections and on hills.

I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. Maybe I was charging when the battery was too hot, or maybe I had the charger set wrong or something. I'm just glad that I don't have to ship back, wait, and argue about it.

yes the system has a few quirks but still the best unit on the market try getting replacement stuff from a japan made unit or support

there is a good chance that the battery just needed to be "reset". It happens with the BionX system sometimes where the battery just isnt charging properly. if it happens again, I would suggest trying to charge it, and then check the voltage of the battery. if it isnt what it should be, let it sit for about an hour, then try charging it again. I am pretty sure my boss and I made a video on how to do that, but i am not sure if it was ever posted. I will look into it for you, and see if I can scrounge it up for you :)
