I'm going to try to make it soon. I am about a twenty minute ride from the bridge.
I'll definitely try and make it out next weekend (with a helmet), but after that my attendance will become sketchy. Maybe I'll make it out once a month, if you manage to make it to Denton once a month.

deal.
i'll probably be in denton this tuesday.
I'll probably be absent this week, but whatever.
I made a facebook group for this ride so I can advertise it a little more. Hopefully I can get some people out.
If anyone wants to join the group just search "Dallas Sunday Morning Ride."
I'm coming up from down south, weather permitting, etc.

Casual pace to me is about 15mph or so....with the headwinds yesterday we probably averaged about 8mph once we made it back to the lake though. Very few hills, nothing serious.
Definitely a no drop ride though.
We'll wait on ya.
Once we get to oak cliff we stop for brunch.
The spiral diner has all you can eat pancakes on sunday.
my friends and i will attend if we can get there that early. ha.

I'll have them up in a day or so. I want to finish the usual upgrades first(change bar tape, brake pads and get new saddle). Except for the faded decals she is a beauty.

How about a lycra poly blend?
Did you convert it to a single speed?
Just got home from work. No, gonna leave it as a 12 speed.

Is the all-you-can-eat-pancakes at Spiral Diner an in-route planned stop on this ride?

Yes. It's the halfway point.
We stop, eat and ride back.
There's other places around to eat, if the spiral doesn't interest you- but I thought it would be rad to have a lot of cyclists show up to the same spot.
Plus the spiral diner is bike friendly.

Spiral sounds great. I'll try to make it over the next couple of weeks. thanks for the info.
The Spiral sounds good. My daughter wants to meet there next week with relatives, etc. so some recon is in order. I'll be there 10 am Sunday - I have got to go to work on this holiday gut! Mockingbird at Buckner, right?

Sorry to hear that- hope you get better soon. I've had clogged sinuses and a cough and stuff, but getting out and riding has actually made that feel better. :)

I almost can't lift my arms.
I'm sitting here in a bathtub filled with boiling water and still shivering.
I hurt in places that I didn't know could hurt.

Hey robot, get yer ***** down to an ER or a doc in the box. Get a shot of Tamiflu and you can get over that flu in a couple of days vs two full weeks. Until then plenty of fluids and motrin (800mg 3xday) and puh-lenty of rest. Flu sucks, get better...I wanna ride!!
Ouch! Get better Robot and get plenty of rest.

I'm still going to do this ride as planned with two of my friends. I don't exactly know the route, but I'm going to try to plot it out on google maps. I'm will try to do the same route as last week, it's really nice. I will post a link to it here once I figure it out. Anyone who doesn't mind possibly getting lost is welcome to come along. We'll be on fixed gears, but any sort of bikes are welcome. Get well soon, robot!
i'll still come out since you are brian. are you bringing fellow denton folk? if so, would i know them?

You can take White Rock Road to West Shore Drive to Santa Fe Trail and then catch the Veloway to Carroll, I think it is, then jump over to Elm or Main and on into downtown. This is how I went a couple of weeks ago. The main drawback being several broken bottles along the veloway.

Isn't it crushed gravel or something?
I heard it wasn't skinny tire road bike friendly.

The route I've described is all on pavement. There's also an old railroad grade you can follow in places, but not as a continuous route. I don't know that it's any better than your route, but check it out sometime when you get bored. There was a post on the subject a while back, and I posted some pictures of the old railroad grade.
There was broken glass in several places, and then when I was riding here in Garland today, I rode through a couple of spots of broken glass. Would people think me strange (or stranger) if I started carrying a whisk broom and dustpan around with me on these rides?

no, i doubt it, one of them is a friend of mine from austin who's in town for the holidays and the other friend lives in rockwall and is meeting us at the lake. glad to hear you're coming out, this will be fun.

All you jackasses need to quit talking about how fun its gonna be without me.
Hahahahahahaa.
No, really.

I plotted the route on google maps, here it is: http://tinyurl.com/7o7eeu
it's not exactly right because it doesn't know about the trails, but it's pretty close.
I just hope it's not so damn windy. It's been too much the last two days. Wind + Hills + 43/13 = Quick Exhaustion.
johnnytheboy
12-27-08, 07:42 PM
I was runnin 48/17 last sunday and it was too windy for me!
You were a champ!
brianchester
12-27-08, 09:33 PM
yea it'd be really nice if the wind died down a little tomorrow. that 43/13 setup is nuts, i don't know how you do it.
Isn't it crushed gravel or something?
I heard it wasn't skinny tire road bike friendly.
Most people would be amazed how much terrain 700x23's can handle. They can handle dirt roads & such just fine.
Brianchester: try MapMyRide.com it will help you lay out great bike routes.
I checked out the Veloway a few days ago. More than a few patches of broken glass. Not the best neighborhood. I'd rather take Columbia, Gaston, Swiss, Lindsley, Junius or Live Oak if I'm traveling that direction. The trail repeatedly breaks your momentum as you must stop at every crossing. I'd rather have the favorable traffic lights. The Veloway is a probably better bet for slow, safe cruising (once the glass is swept).
Still I'm glad it exists as it will hopefully encourage more people to commute or run errands on their bike.

How was the ride today, guys?
I finally get to take the Schwinn Super LeTour out for her test flight! I didn't do the route ya'll talked about, just did white rock lake trail and the lake a couple of times. My legs feel sore now. It was just alittle breezy but it was great!
I usually commute on my MTB to work. I don't mean to toot my own horn but I was pretty fast today! Did 23 miles and averaged 14 mph. Had a few spurts where I went 17-19 mph. Get better soon!
