General Cycling Discussion - What to do? Sick, can't sleep, mind gone rampant.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ok, I went out for a particularly intense ride this weekend and didn't really do much afterwards to refuel (I didn't have food in the house) except for make some ramen and oatmeal and went to take a nap. My gf came over and we got vigorously intimate (you know what i mean) for a while which again left me exhausted. I know she mentioned she was starting to get a cold (but I'm not blaming her for this) on thursday and friday. We got out afterwards, rode around for a little bit and that was that. I went to bed saturday night and woke up sunday morning completely sore all over and had a slightly sore throat. Thinking I better take it easy, I took the day off for R&R.
Cause I have to get up at 5:45 for work in the morning, I went to bed at 10:30 last night. All in all I think I woke up about 6 times: 1am, 2:30am, 3am, 4:30am, 5am, 5:15am. Each time I wake up feeling extremely warm (not breaking out in a night sweat or anything, just really warm) with my mind racing. I counted my heart rate at about 75bpm, normally it should be around 50, and I felt it pounding in my chest too. Each time I woke up I had at least 1 or 2 lingering dreams about constantly going to the LBS to check up on a bike I'm building (which I'm not) and suing for child support (children I don't have).
What's going on with me?!

Sounds like the flu. Hope you're better soon.

Your heart rate goes up with a fever. Take your temp. You are sick.

maybe see a head doctor as well?? ;)
I talked to a friend of mine who talked to someone who's a nurse (not a doctor) and she's says my symptoms resemble that of a small cold brought on by exhaustion and dehydration.
What I can't explain is the active imagination...

You obviously need to be riding your bike more!

Well, the exhaustion and dehydration will give a viral infection like a cold a boost, but viruses don't come into existence spontaneously. You had to have picked up the virus itself from somewhere. Gee, I wonder....
As for your heart pounding and mind racing, maybe your worried about any unexpected outcomes of your gf's visit...

I think that's what got me bonked out in the first place :p
Anyway, I just took it easy at work today, drank lots of water, vitamin C, simple carbs. I still can't explain why my mind gets overactive when I'm sick and I have too many dreams at night. Everytime I try searching, I keep getting links for holistic medicine, blood letting, etc.

Sounds like you've been hitting a lot of MTB links. :D
maybe ya were worn out and yer gf had a cold that she could fight off but you, having been worn out, got it and were to weak to fight it.
Sorry your sick, but I can't think of a nicer way to catch a bug.

I second the motion. You are sick, go and see a doctor. Until then, drink copious amounts of water.

Yup sounds like a case of the cold with a slight case of over active imagination to top things off. I think we have the same thing. Maybe it is a good time for a light mileage week.
It is probably a combination of things. Your vigorous physical activity, (you stud), & exposure to your GF's cold. If you have a fever go to the doctor, even if you get the fever to break with something like tylenol, don't mess around with it. If you don't have a fever play it by ear. Your illness may last a few days, even if you go to a doctor he or she may send you home and tell you to get rest, etc. If the illness lasts for more then a few day, even with out a fever go to the doctor.
Eat good healthy foods, if you can stomach them & keep them down. Juice is ok, but drink lots of water. Stay away from beer & soda pop for the time being. Sports drinks may not be a bad idea too, but not to much at once.

When I was sick with food poisoning last year, the doc told me dry toast was OK to eat (about all I could keep down). I got away with putting vegemite on it.

I have noticed when I have a fever I often have strange dreams and wake up alot at night. When I was a child I had the same dream every time I got sick.
The body does strange things when fighting off an illness.

dude, you didn't fill your radiator and was having a hard time keeping your body temperature in control. you were overheating. when your blood serum decreases this happens.
i'm sure you are fine now.
yeah. my mom said once when i was young i got sick and kept having nightmares about blood being everywhere.

No offense, but I've tried vegemite and it seemed like that stuff would cause food poisoning. Definitely an acquired taste :) .

Yea, an acquired English taste.
About those dreams - your illlness isn't allowing you to get into a deep sleep or REM, meaning your brain is more awake and more concious of your dreams than you normally are.
That's my guess.

Thanks everybody!
I think I also figured out why I've been waking up warmer with a sore throat.
Whenever I wake up in the morning, I have this real sore throat. After taking a hot shower, I take a huge snort and this huge piece of dried snot flies down my throat from my nasal passages and almost chokes me to death and my sore throat feels a lot better.

Wasn't there just a thread discussing the health benefits of snot?
