Hi all,

HAppy easter to everyone away from hospitals preferably (family issue for me).

Now as for the title. I ll try to be brief.

Rim options D321(ex729) and D521(ex721). I really prefer the construction of the D321, but i am a bit concerned with the extra width.

Tires

Continental Diesel 2.5
WTB MotoRaptor 2.4
Nokian NBX 2.3
Panaracer Cinder 2.25

I wish i could put the Maxxis High Roller 2.35 on the list, BUT in the UK they import only the dual ply 42a version instead of the 60a Singleply that i want.
I am 95kg and i use the Specialized SX with a Z1 for trailriding with a bias towards DH/FR (as much as the bike can take).

I am concerned about the combination of the D321 with the above tires and the general impressions and opinions on the tires i mentioned above. I ride in the UK on a mixed bag of conditions with 10-12 miles of road ride in order to reach the trail.

PS.If i had the option i would get Arrow FRX rims and Highrollers 2.35 but in the UK i cant.

Hey Math,

I have a set of wheels with the D321 rims. They ARE bombproof, but they are considerably heavier that my set of Rhyno Lites. I'm a big guy as you know, so the extra heft is one of the things I live with. However, I put my D321's on my Hardtail and my Rhyno Lites on my Uzzi.

My Uzzi definitely felt lighter with the Rhyno's. And they're a decent rim, although I did taco my front wheel back in Feb.

Thanks mate for the reply,

I am sold on the D321 rim. I dont care about weight. I prefer to loose the 20lbs i need from my torso ;). Anyhow, my only concern is what is the narrowest tire i can fit on a D321. Mavic says 2.0/2.1

I plan on Motoraptor 2.4, Wierwolf 2.4, Diesel 2.5, Vertical 2.3, Panaracer Cinder 2.25.

What do you reckon?

I ran a set of Michelin Wild Gripper City (I can't remember specific name). Anyways, they were a slick tire in a 1.8" without a problem. I'm currently running a set of WTB Velociraptors in a 2.1 with no problems.

DONE.

Will get D321 on HopeXC hubs soon!. You really saved me a lot of trouble. After all i just loved the way d321 is constructed, double eyelets etc etc. Mavic did X618 last year which was essentially a smaller D321. Guess what...they discontinued it....guess why..... UST promotion.

I was about to get D3.1 UST rims, but a recent "fair" bashing on ridemonkey luckily prevented me of doing so. So of i go for d321 (my other option was D521 but i hate non-disc rims...i hate the looks).

Cool,

I'm running a set of Profile Racing hubs on mine. Ever hear of Profile over there?

Their factory is about 45 mins. from here. Check em out at www.profileracing.com

I'm also running a set of their chromoly cranks on my hardtail as well.

I grew up racing BMX when Profile hit the scene. My best friend was one of their first full factory riders and everyone HAD TO HAVE a set of their cranks. Another buddy of mine works for them now and he's in charge of Sponsorship. I saw him Mon. night and he's heading out to Sea Otter tommorrow.

Profile cranks ROCK. Especially the version with the Ti spindle makes you wonder why on earth should someone get Saint or Raceface Diabolus Cranks. Luckily i got a pair of NorthShores on a good deal which are lighter than both Saint or Diabolus. If there were no north shores, i would get profiles or middleburn.

Does profile produce 9speed hubs?

Yes, their website states an 8 speed, but the freehub spacing is the same for a 9 speed.

These hubs are incredibly smooth and hot looking to boot. Profile definitely produces top quality stuff.

Well just the looks of them look convincing. I ll check them out for pricing when i ll return to the UK. Having said that, for high-end range, hope hubs cannot be beaten for the money in the UK. I got a Hope headset and it rocks.

My price for Profile parts can't be beat. Since I've known him since we were 12, and I've worked in bike shops off and on since I was 15, he usually hooks me up with things at cost or just a bit above cost.

Now, if I could just him to "give"(sell me on the cheap) me one of thier HT frames, I'd be a very happy man.
