General Cycling Discussion - Computer choice

My old Sigma computer has packed in. I never really fancied it (the silly rubber band fitting etc) so I want to try something else. It must be wireless, reliable, easy to fit, uncluttered display and not too many functions to complicate things. I have been mighty impressed by any Specialised gear I have bought. Has anyone any experience of their computers or have they any other suggestions?

I have a Cateye Strada Wireless and like it a lot.

The basic computers are almost a commodity. It's like buying a bushel of corn - one is pretty much the same as all the others.

That aside, my wife has a 8 or 10 year old Specialized wireless computer on her hybrid. It doesn't get a lot of use but, aside from replacing batteries, the computer still works fine.

I bought a wireless Bell speedometer at Wal-Mart for super-cheap and I'm pretty satisfied with it...it has trouble past 20 MPH, though. I think I might try a stronger magnet. Someone mentioned rare-earth magnets before.

Wireless cateye- Works wonders and gives me everything I want- Except I also had a heart monitor on aswell. So to unclutter the bars- I got a Polar bike specific Heart monitor that also worked as a bike computer. Bit pricey but ideal except the readout was a bit small.


Then i got a Garmon edge 305- Now this does everything I want. Altimeter and Cadence too. Why I never got one before I do not know.

Find one that shows the temp.

I've been very happy with Vetta (http://www.vetta.com/main.asp?language=en) computers. Started with an RT77 on my first bike. Then went to RT88. It's now on my CX bike. I have a V100 WL2X on my road bike.

Sigma BC 2006 MHR (http://www.sigmasport.com/us/produkte/bikecomputer/topline_wireless/bc2006_mhr/?punkt=features). And you don't have to use the "silly rubber band fitting". Use two zip-ties instead.

I also suggest the Cateye Strada Wireless. Never gave me any problems. Easy to read. And you simply push on the bottom of the unit to change the screen to see the other data it can show you like trip-distance or average speed. Very simple and easy. And mounting it was also simple.
