Anybody love using their bike trainer this winter? Or is everyone a hater and just do it out of necessity?

I've been surprised in that after getting smoked by some strong group riding in the past month, I've taken much more of a liking to my trainer, which can give me long, uninterrupted stretches of pure butt kicking, with no braking and coasting. In fact, I think I'm improving faster on the trainer than I am when I ride on the roads. Am looking forward to a good few months of serious trainer work.

You're sick....

But i do agree that you can see some major improvements while on the trainer because you can't "cheat".

I enjoy riding my trainer because it keeps me indoors on 15 degree, wind swept days like today.

I can do intervals without interuptions. I can focus, concentrate, and do what I need to do without worrying about every other variable found while out on the road.

Plus... it makes me want to get back outdoors that much more. I can't WAIT for spring rides, racing, and longer, warmer days.

That'll last another two weeks, max.

I think I may last longer, mainly because I'm extremely lucky to live in SoCal, where it's an eminently rideable 40-50F and dry on weekend mornings, so I can get in a regular fast group ride to keep up the motivation.

No doubt things would be different if I was relegated to 100% trainer. That would be painful for sure - no motivation to get better without seeing faster folks on a regular basis.

I actually don't mind my trainer ... it's more comfortable and convenient than riding at -30C temps. I just wish there was a way I could set it up so it was more easily accessible.

How much time do you put in on a trainer during one session?

1hr-1:30. Ends up feeling harder than a 2hr uber-hilly ride for me, likely because of no coasting.
