I am wanting an all white bar tape. How is the Soma product? I have Bontrager now and I like the thickness and padding but I like the idea of completely white. Anyone have it? Pics would also be great.

Thanks,
Free

i have the pear green and one of the camo thick and zesty tape. i like the pear a lot more than the camo, its much softer so the white might be nice. i have used nashbars white cork (or gel, maybe) tape on two bikes now and like it even more then the green soma tape, and its way cheaper.

I wouldn't pay more than $6 for any cork tape, I buy performance's house brand in basic colors and it works just as well as any other cork tape out there for fraction of a price.

i got mine in yellow for only $4.52. it is thicker than most other tapes. i just went for a short ride today with it and so far so good.
p/s: go for the brown one!

Brown what...seat or tape, or both?

Soma's brand tape is the same as the Bonty stuff minus the embossed "B". For white tape, nothing cleans up and lasts longer than Fizik. Cork tape in white gets grungy and wears poorly from the cleaning.

How much life could I expect from white cork tape?

i used white cork tape (cinelli) for about 2500 miles on my road bike before switching it.

it held up well & didn't get too dirty (i wear cycling gloves & avoid cheetos before i ride)

and if you dont wear gloves, white tape gets pretty filthy if you ride regularly. I'd say about 2-3 months before the tape is dingy grey.

I tried the Soma tape for a while, didn't like it. Deda and Cinelli cork feels better.

The Fizik tape is neither cork nor gel, it's a very synthetic (but comfortable) material, just like their saddles. It cleans up superbly.

I rode on some cinelli white cork for about 1000 miles and it held up fairly well. If I had to go cork again I'd spring for cinelli but I've been sold on Fizik for over a year now and swear by it! Rode white for a LONG time but recently went to the black because it is far more grippy in the rain and I live in the NW so it's pretty important.

Adding to what others have said: my white tape is gross right now, I take it off and re-wrap it every month or so. My ex has white Fizik and it is WAAAY easier to clean. spray some 409 and you're good to go without a re-wrapping fiasco.

I have the white Deda tape, and it is very comfortable. It got dirty within two weeks of riding, but I also used some 409 and it cleaned up pretty nicely. Hopefully it will clean up just as nicely in another two weeks.

I hated the deda. It felt nice and cleaned easy but it wouldn't wrap a curve at all. I threw it out within 1 week

Keep practicing, I use it on two drops and bullhorns.

I wouldnt clean my bar tape with weirdo chemicals. I wouldnt want to absorb all of that. use something natural, if anything.

Rather stick with the fizik it's a far better tape IMO and I have no need to make something work... should work correctly the first time. Believe me I'm not exactly green on wrapping bars...

Don't do it. White tape = Brown tape after a month. Go with whatever other color your bike has on it.

Well, I am going with white. I love the look of a white saddle with white tape. It is rather inexpensive and can be changed out monthly. I honestly dont know what other color I would go with....it has a light pink right now which looks sick but I like white better.

I had both the Thick 'n Zesty & the Fizik soft touch white tape. The Fizik isn't as cushy but the sueded effect felt great & can be wiped clean with a soapy sponge.

Nice...well it turns out my girl friend got me some Bony cork for Xmas. So I guess thats what I will be using for a while lol. She also got me some BA Cyclone track pedals too!! Hurray for awesome girl friends that understand our obsession! :thumb:

what a vagina! Seriously you're afraid of a little 409? You realize you absorb worse chemicals just by riding your bike in traffic? You kids crack me up big time! :roflmao2:

And the fizik tape may be easier to clean because its synthetic but it is not by any means a grip tape. its more like a decoration for your bars than and actual beneficial component. it is so slippery you better wear gloves and they better be dry!

considering that cleaner residue will most likely remain in the very porous tape, yeah, I dont want to absorb whatever chemicals are present in 409 into my sweaty hands repeatedly when I could use a cleaner that is safer or not as noxious (or just use black tape and not worry about cleaning it all). if riding a bicycle near cars is as unhealthy as you suggest, why contribute to the problem?

I'm sure using red devil lye or gasoline would clean tape well, but that doesnt mean I want that residue absorbed into my hands when better options exist.

You know, you can stop whining and just use soap and water, right?

did I say otherwise?
soap and water would fall under "better options"
