Mountain Biking - Hardrock Weight

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm trying to lighten my bike up a bit, and I'm having a hard time finding out the weights of my existing components. My bike is still being shipped back down to Houston, and in the meantime I was wondering if anyone on here knew where I could find info on the weight of a couple items that I cannot find. Namely, the frame, wheels, and saddle. I don't know about the seat post, stem, or bar either, but I can probably weight them later and find out. It just seems silly that I can't find out how much my frame weighs.

A guy in this weightweenies thread says 2000 grams (4.4 lbs.) (http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42557) for a 2005 19" frame.

D'oh. That would help, huh. I ride an '08 Hardrock Comp Disc. (19" frame)

sorry, but you have the wrong bike for trying to lighten up. don't put too much money into it if that's your goal.

Between 30 and 31lbs stock. Honestly, in an entry level bike, I doubt you'll see anything under 29. Most are probably right around 30

I figure I'll upgrade stuff after it breaks until I have all mid-to-high end stuff on my bike. Then I'll go out and find a nice frame somewhere to put it all on :)

Good plan, otherwise it's putting lipstick on a pig. Bike weight isn't all that important...are you slim and trim? cheaper and better to drop your own body weight first. The listings at starbike.weightweenies.com are a good place to review component weights but doubt you'll find too much stock equipment from a Hardrock there...

i swapped the god awful suspension fork for a rigid one. i swear its atleast 5-10 pounds lighter i cant believe how heavy the fork was.

Well SunTour's website says the '09 model SF7-XCM fork (found on the Hardrock Sport and Comp) weights 2300 grams, so presumably the '08 model weights the same. 2300 grams=5.07 pounds. No wonder my bike feels like a boat anchor when I'm trying to climb up hills.

On that bike if anything the heavy fork will help balance the bike front to rear better (and not much more in terms of performance ). While it's more likely that it's just your fitness level you feel climbing, the weight of your rims/tires would be something you could feel more than the fork...
