I'm itchin to get out of the house and go ride despite the fact that I have nowhere to go, the temperature is on the chilly side, and it's the middle of the night.

All I have to do is wait for my fleece to dry in the dryer and then I can get out and test my brand new Performance Commuter Jacket, tights, gloves, balaclava, and booties. I might be overdressed but I feel like playing dress-up.

I started the dryer 5 minutes ago. Are we there yet? :twitchy:

I guess this is part of that milestone I reached where I feel crummy when I DON'T ride.

What's chilly to yous? Here, 40's since we Cali peeps are spoiled by the sun!:D..Riding at night is cool! I ride up into the foothills, nobody around!:thumb:

40s is chilly, mid to upper 30s is cold, and I can certainly tell a difference as the temp dips below freezing.

The ride was a short 3-4 mile ride but it mitigated my craving for spinning. I did two laps around my subdivision and a 2 mile up and back loop. I hafta use Google Maps to get the distance more accurate for bikejournals.com.

The jacket is, of course, too tight around the middle, the balaclava is just slightly too loose, the tights are too long, and it all worked out juuuuust fine 'cause I was in the saddle. :thumb:

I know where you're coming from. I also picked up a new commie jacket from Performance and some winter weight tights from Nashbar. I'm awake and ready to ride and it's 0430.

Did I mention that it's waaaaaaay too warm to wear my new stuff?? Ah well...At least I've got until 0700 to get into work so I can take the long way in.

Peace to you my brotha's and sista's and have a Merry Christmas!

I rode night before last for a little while. It was 28 degrees with wind chill of 11 to 15. My new silk balaclava the wife got me worked fantastic! Now I just need to get better wet weather equipment! It's been raining off and on (mostly on!)for a couple of weeks now, and the stationary bikes at the gym just don't cut it.

Best wishes to all for the holidays!

Not all of us live in bicycle paradise! We would donate our left "wabos" to have year round weather like that.

Temps average in the mid 90's with some weeks in the 100's from June-September. Those are days when you ride at 5AM. However, most riders here are acclamated to the temps here in Arkansas. It is really not about the heat as it is the humidity. You can break out in a sweat going to your mailbox and back in the summer. Mid-day rides are tough. Most ride early in the AM or later in the evening. Hydration is critical.

Thanks Wedge! I guess it's about the same here but not as humid from what I've heard. The heat is no biggie for me but Gina does not do well. BuT she won't get out of a bed an earlier to avoid it. Me, I'm riding either way!:p

Pretty much the same here in North Alabama, mostly 90's with devastating humidity. In the summer - if you ain't sweatin', you ain't breathin'!

Since I started this thread a week ago, I've put in 53 miles. That's a wee bit shy of half of my total mileage for December. :twitchy: I guess I was itchin to ride, wasn't I?

New Year's Eve looks like it will be a rest day, I'm starting to really feel the last 53...

We get 80's and 90's here in WV with 60-80% humidity, I was in Cali at 105 and it was cooler feeling than 80 here. I guess what they say a it being the humidity and not the heat is true. Now it is 31 at 9am.

Hey,

I grew up in Fairmont and went to school in Morgantown. I haven't been back for years but will be heading to the FBI in Clarksburg in a few weeks. Are there good places to ride?
