Hi. Newb here and figured I would ask you guys. I want to purchase speedplay pedals and cleats. I can get a nice pair of sidi shoes pretty cheap. Will the speedplay cleats work on the sidis?

The speedplay web site has cross reference charts that show which pedals work with which brand/model shoes

Sidi shoes for cheap? What do you consider cheap? There are a variety of shoes that will take speedplay. I have a base model dia dora shoe and a shimano R-215. They both work with speedplay.

On my first road bike I have the Speedplay X series with the SIDI Genius 5. With the second road bike I kept the shoes and put on the Speedplay Zero's stainless steel. Both are ok. The shoes I got because the pro bike fitter said to get them.

I did not need shims on the speedplay with the SIDI. However when installing the cleats, make sure you use Speedplay's flat top phillips screw. Speedplay gives you two types of screws, the flat top and the rounded one. The rounded one will cause the Speedplays to malfunction in the sense that you will have difficulty clipping out.
