Great Lakes - What have your road conditions been lately?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

:commute:Seems like lately that the workers are not plowing and salting the side streets like they have done with many areas having salt shortages and budget problems. My street (Pandola Ave.) in front of my house, inside our city limits, is always plowed since it's on the snow route but most other side streets like Susan, Buck and the city portion of Timberline Dr. hardly been touched since the ice storm last week and those streets are in very icy condition (seems like you're driving on rugged country roads). The county portions of my subdivision are in ok condition even though not perfect. May have to wait til 40 deg. + weather before i can safely ride anywhere.

So here's my question: What have your road conditions been lately where you live?

Thanks

well yesterday was the worst driving i ever did. i-90 was closed because of a 22 car pileup so i took the main streets. The sidestreets were scary. i was just rolling in 1st gear with no go pedal and i was thinking i was heading into a curb/tree/car the whole time. The main streets the car started to lose grip underneath me at about 30mph.

Last night was an adventure. I never have much of a problem driving in snow but others do. I was flying along when a kid next to me started to fishtail/spin at about 40 mph....coming into my lane and into me.

I used a lot of tricks and all I could see was hitting that car, but I kept us separated and put it into the ditch.

The roads have been a mess. Some areas are worse than others. Downtown Chicago was an absolute mess last weekend. There are places in all of the little burbs that are a mess, but the main roads have been OK.

We've had rain and icy roads here in Indy. I'm dying to ride but it is just always wet lately (raining). I want to ride while I have two weeks off................

The conditions have been...less say, less than ideal, but then again we live in the north and it's winter! Let's all eat and get fat and lazy!!!!!!

Dry, and covered (Like, you can't tell the difference between the snow and the salt) in salt.
