Hey all,

I am trying to brainstorm a way to mount my iphone to my handlebars. It would need to be something small and compact, but also allow the iphone to swivel between portrait and landscape.

Now before you go saying "why would you mount an expensive camera to your bike" the idea for me is stictly for indoor training.

Where I have my trainer setup I don't have a TV. I also could setup a table and my laptop, but I would have to dismantle it every time since it would block the patch to the washer and dryer.

I have digitized all my videos, including bike training to iphone format. So it got me thinking that the iphone mounted to my bike would be a great compact video setup. The added advantage is that it would also work when travelling so I could hook it to an exercise bike.

I have found a few bike mounts, but most don't look like they swivel. I also think a small arm to get the iphone higher would make for easier viewing. I am just stumped as to what things I could use. I figured with the innovative mounts I have seen people here create for various items someone might have some ideas to get me spurred into action.

Put one on the stem, maybe?

There's this one, (http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=437) but it blocks the volume switch. Have you asked if this other mount (http://www.mountguys.com/product_p/rap-274-ap3.htm) can rotate?

My friend uses this iPhone swivel bracket arrangement he got off of ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SPECK-CLEAR-CASE-BELT-CLIP-FOR-APPLE-IPHONE-3G-NR_W0QQitemZ140291046500QQihZ004QQcategoryZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He says to remove clip off the back and attach instead with zip ties. It works for him on the road so it should be fine for the trainer.

There are a few cases made for the iphone that have swivel clips on the back.

If you go to the hardware store you can probably find broom or mop clamps.

These clamps are mounted on the inside wall of a broom closet and you press the handle of the mop or broom into the clamp and it holds the broom or mop nice and neat.

If you pop rivet one of these clamps onto the swivel clip of the iphone case you will have a mount that you can clip onto your handlebars, it can be removed in a moment and remounted in a moment, the swivel will allow you to turn it to reorientate the screen.

An additional feature of this mounting system is in a crash the mount and phone will simply twirl around the bars rather than break off, a feature that most headlights lack as a lot of manufacturers still make headlights with fixed mounts.

...a lot of manufacturers still make headlights with fixed mounts.

I think that's because snap-on mounts tend to unsnap and fall off in a crash.
