Southeast - Going on vacation to Orlando.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey guys I will be going to Orlando, Florida from January 5th to 10th. I am coming from NY so I am not really familiar with the area. I will be going with my brother and am looking for some fun things to do while we are there. I am 21 and he is 25.
Looking for things such as...
1. go karting, race car driving, surfing, scooter rental, jet ski rental, skydiving ect... Any other fun/crazy activities. We will try anything once, maybe twice
2. Also how hot is it in the area during this time? Warm enough to swim in the ocean or pool?
3. My brother is not into cycling but if possible maybe I would like to rent a road bike. If its not possible no big deal but if so please let me know where.
4. Any other suggestions would be great. I am aware we are right by Disney World, MGM and all that other stuff but I have never been there and am not sure how many "adult" and fun activities there are to do. Is it all for kids?
Thanks
Hello Jynx...
If you're in Orlando, you can find all the go-carts and entertainment like that on International Drive or I-drive. There's also indoor skydiving there, but I'm not sure about formal skydiving.
According to the weather trends on TheWeatherChannel.com (http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/32828?month=1) it should be in the mid to low 70's for the week you are here. It was 81 and sunny today so if you're from NY you should have no problems swimming and surfing. Local hotel pools are usually solar heated, but the ocean will be a little cooler. If I remember last year, water temp will be in the low 60's which is bearable but you can rent a wetsuit when you rent a board.
Cocoa beach is the closest beach to Orlando and is a popular surfing area as well. You can rent boards and suits from Ron Jons or Cocoa Beach Surf Company on a daily basis. Ron Jons in Cocoa is open 24 hours a day/365 days a year so call them for surf reports before you make the 50 mile drive. Here are a few surf cams (http://www.angelfire.com/fl/boardheads2/surfcams.html) I use to see for myself if it's worth the trip...
You can also rent beach cruisers from Ron Jons and CBSC, but I don't know of a place here in Orlando that rents bikes... This place is tourist heaven so I'm sure there is one or a hundred that rent bikes. Bring your laptop and Google for stuff during your downtime.
Disney parks are generally for kids, but the Universal parks are geared more for adults. Plan on dropping about $80 for admission to the park.
Also, bring lots of quarters because most of the convenient highways other than I-4 are toll roads.
Have a good time.
Honestly on the weather, it could be 80 or it could be 50 and rain. January is always a crap shoot. I agree Disney is kids and Universal is adults and teens. I was down in the area last weekend visiting relatives that live there and might I add as well, I-4 sucks so get a map of the area, and find alternative roads. I also would not plan on driving anywhere on I drive quickly, it's typically a parking lot.
I will say, you have good timing, as schools will be back in session and the football games will all be over, so you might not find it real busy. Jan - February is when most people from Florida actually go to these places. I just read that Sea World just raised their prices to $75 a person.

Here is a place that rents road bikes:

It's right on the West Orange Trail, 15 miles, no cars.

High 55 to 80, most likely 70-75.

I don't think they have any of that in Orlando...:innocent:
(If you're near Disney, you'll have all of that stuff you could ever want)
