i've been riding bikes my whole life but only in the past few months have i started getting seriously into it. i'm currently training to go for a long trip...either to zion national park, or to the east coast (i will be starting out in austin texas). i have a few questions and any input would be helpful in helping me make decisions...

i'm trying to decide which route to take, the westward or the eastward. there would be a difference in climates, of course, and overall landscape. i think i would prefer to ride westward, because there is some absolutely beautiful country out there and i've never visited the southwest, however temperatures could be a serious issue.

if anyone has been through the west on a trip and can offer any advice, i would appreciate it -- what to expect and what precautions to take. also, any general advice for long distance trips. thanks ahead of time.

Read The Touring Threads.
How long and far can you ride without stopping?
What, to date has been your longest ride?
What bike are you riding?

60 miles is a good days work on your bike.
Practice eating and drinking while you ride.

You will need to carry three spare tubes, a tube patch kit, 1 spare tire, frame pump.

Josh just came from Austin. Going to Florida.
Do you have this many bottles?
