Hi - welcome,
some here have chopped the stem to have it lower, I do not recall the thread at the moment but I am sure I have seen pics.
If you want your lbs to change the stem, good luck, tt depends on the year of your boardwalk, the new stems do not always fit on the older single speed boardwalks. Post a pic of you bike, possibly?
If it's like the others, you could just cut a bit off the bottom. I did this with my Mu (based on Josef's).

its a one piece T shape .... there used to be 1 1/8 diameter stem with adjuster bolt, and that one was two piece so you could adjust the upper piece ... but I havent been lucky in aquiring those ...
If it is a newer boardwalk maybe the adjustbale steel handlepost of the ECO will work ( the bike arriving in spring I am sure )

You can ask this guy:

I think he's also on FGG.
This bike is like the evil Dahon cousin of littlepixel's mercton. Minimalism = awesome.

Noice .
I *think* that looks like the 2pc adj. stem/bar ...
Yes it does. And he has a shiny new headset as well.

Thats, ( on the fixie ) I think stock ... mine has it. I want the one ( handle bar stem and whetever the piece that conects the stem to the fork & headset is called ) in that pick !
I tried to upgrade to the mariner stem and handle bar ... no luck mines is threaded the mariner is threadless. Doh ! That'll get expenssive ...
have you considered simply chopping off the handlepost and sticking a quill stem adapter plus whatever shim is required?

I guess the only way it *wouldn't* work is if the handlepost is internally butted.

Thanks for the links, mang . ... but that would still make the bar too tall . :( ( my seat is lower than the warning markings on the seatpost. :( x2 )
It turns out theres a 25.4 mm quill stem in the bottom of that "T" bar ... maybe I can get an adjustable stem with a 5 " riser or a nice bmx bar to work for me . Wish me luck .

If that's all the reach you need, just use a threadless stem adapter (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=1594&subcategory_ID=5230) with a downhill/BMX style short stem. Add a downhill riser bar for more adjustability.
True, and the 2-piece adjustable handlepost won't do anything for you. Don't bother.
I wouldn't go the riser or BMX way though, because you can't chop down too much on the bar, in case it's too wide. A flat bar is more, ah, customizable.
Can we see a pic of you on the bike?

Sorry no pics... Right now its looking kinda - ish ... the seat/saddle is so low that there is only about a fist-full of seastpost showing .
I removed all the fenders and rack,
swaped out the little tires to some bmx road/vert tires, ( hopefully a softer ride )
removed all the little reflectors from various places,
swaped seat/saddles to the performance "in-house" gel saddle,
( you guys, might not like this ) Replaced the folding pedals with some "bare-foot pedals" since this will be my "going to the pool" etc. short arrand bike ...
Its still has the coaster brake ... no front brake untill, I figure this bar thing out ... right now, its looking like either a 5 in. reiser bar with a riser stem & then maybe I wont need that "deathtrap-of-a-quill-stem-riser" ... :(
the 3 combos that I thought might work ( with some of you guyses help )
the bmx stem with bmx bar
the riser stem with reiser bar
riser stem with bmx bar
Gonna go to my LBS and really make someone work for their pay check, I'll need to put some bars and stems togeather and atleast hold them next to the bike to see where they all are in height... the tallest thing I could think of, would be the reiser stem from a comfort bike with a bmx bar , but only if the stem has the 2 bolt "cap" on the handle bar side, & is still a quill stem...
