Come out & play!! It's a great way to kick off the New Year...
Icycle Bicycle
A New Year's Day event, this social ride has been traditionally held in all conditions, even if it is limited to pushing the bikes through hub-deep snow for a few blocks before adjourning to a nearby coffee shop.
January 1st, 2009 11 AM at REI in the Southside Works
The Icycle Bicycle Ride is sponsored by the Western Pennsylvania Wheelmen (http://www.wpwbikeclub.org). It has been an annual event for more than 30 some odd years. Nobody is really certain when it was started.
Hot chocolate and coffee will be provided courtesy of REI at the REI store in the South Side Works. The ride will wend its way around Pittsburgh, mainly on trails. It will be as long or as short as riders want but, if the weather is like last year, several hours. If the road is snow covered it will be a lot shorter, but it will go regardless of sun, rain, or snow. This is definitely not a fast or hard ride. It accomodates all bikes: road, hybrid, mountian, and recumbent, as well as all levels of rider from kids to hard-core hammerheads.
HELMETS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED.
